1.
I have this: http://www.thomann.de/gb/basix_kontrabassstaender.htm

It's okay - not amazing. The endpin cup sits a few inches of the ground, which means if you were to rest your bass with endpin extended in it, the bass would sit quite high and make it a little prone to toppling. However, it works fine if you position your endpin behind the front bar that's on the ground (hope that makes sense). Having the arms around the bouts is confidence inspiring.

Is this the new K&M one you saw?: http://www.thomann.de/gb/km_141_mkii.htm
This looks to address the endpin issue I mentioned. Hmmmmm, tempting.

I previously used one like this for years: http://www.thomann.de/gb/stagg_sv_db_double_bass_stand.htm
Only changed it because the lower arms that support the bottom of the bass were too low for me. This one seems to have movable arms.
I use this - http://www.djmmusic.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=SIS14-BK

Looks the same as Gareth's from Thomann. I've had no problems with it.

Hmmmmm.....The Q and As on that site include the following:-
Q: Do I still need a preamp for my upright bass pickup (system) with the Bassbone?
A: If you use a preamp with your pickup when you plug into a regular bass amp now, you will probably still need it with the Bassbone. If you are using a two pickup or pickup/mic system, that two channel mixer/preamp is still needed. The input impedance of the Bassbone is 470k ohms, less than the optimal 1 megohm input impedance most upright bass pickups require, though the Bass Max is usually ok with that impedance.

I find that I need a preamp with my BP100 (I use the Platinum Pro) and this response seems to suggest I'd still need it if I used the Bassbone.

  3.
When I put in either blue or black at both ends, that site tells me I have Thomastik Superflexible strings... but maybe that's just wishful thinking.

Sorry about the size of these pics but do you all agree on the colours?

Here's the whole thing (with a bonus picture of me and my girlfriend)

I'm sure it hasn't been played much if at all because in 1 week I'm already destroying the "ebonised" finish on the fingerboard, this was perfect last Monday.

That explains the buzz on my A string!
Hi Josh,

Colours aside I think you've fitted the strings the wrong way round in the tailpiece - the strings shouldn't appear from behind the tailpiece. Take a look at other images elsewhere on the web. Always happy to be corrected though.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

  4.
Out of curiosity, what did you think of them when you had them on?
I bought these from Keith and so far I'm really pleased with them. They have much more life than my old strings which were of an unknown make and really old.... so that's perhaps not surprising, but I now have proper 'notes' at the bottom end and not just a dull thud. The response across the board is even and my bass 'speaks' more clearly.
