  1. It didn't work for me either. But the material is available via https://archive.org/.

Just put freebassparts-pv24.pagesperso-orange.fr into the Wayback Machine's "enter URL or keywords" box at the top of that page, then hit Return. The last entries in the Internet Archive are from 2023. It's a little slow, but I've just downloaded a pdf, so it works.

Yeah pretty much, 2014 US jazz or jazz elite or sometimes my 71p which has a nice warm sound, all have labella LTF’s 👍

Going off on a slight tangent from the start of this thread... I bought a set of LaBella LTF-4A about a month ago. The E, A and D strings sound great, but the G is very lively, and doesn't seem to quite fit with the other three. Is this normal or have I been a bit unlucky?

  3. Stumbled across 'Rocket to Kingston' by 'Bobby Ramone' the other day. What do reggae aficionados think of this?

If you don't know about this album, the clue is in Bob Marley's face pasted over that of Dee Dee Ramone...

I too love this film. There’s a bunch of transcriptions on my website for those who haven’t got the book mentioned.

I didn’t get it first time but second viewing in a decent home cinema setup and I was like ‘hello, listen to the bass…”. Dunn is a killer player - he says so much, often using very little. I always compare his (mainly) crotchet and quaver approach with Jamerson’s 16th note approach and how they both work, in very different ways to propel the music along.

Hi @dodge_bass, can you post a link to your website? Thanks.

  5. I don't gig so this is probably a stupid question, but here goes...

Since the sound of a band is vital - it virtually defines some bands (think JJ Burnel's bass tone in The Stranglers), and could lead to a bad word-of-mouth when it's terrible - why don't bands have their own sound engineer, someone that they can rely on to ensure the band's sound no matter where they are playing?

  6. It's been a while since I last checked in here; listening to this today brought me back. (I did a search to see if it had already been posted, but found nothing.) This used to be available on Spotify, but it's greyed out now; darn!

According to Wikipedia, "Three members of the group were murdered throughout the group's tenure"!

  7. I think this video by Andrew Pouska (the person behind StudyBass) is a gold nugget in all of the bass tutorials on YouTube. It teaches two fundamental ways of how to study. This should help beginners, or anyone who wants to learn but has never been taught how to learn.
