1. Hi everyone!

First off I need to say I don't really want to sell this bass, but unfortunately needs must. I bought it brand new in 2008 from PMT in Birmingham, so I probably paid too much for it, but I tried all the American P's in the shop and this one had the sound I was looking for. The ash body, string through bridge and maple fretboard/neck combo seemed to produce the best P growl I'd ever heard, with the maple neck really adding to the top end. It also comes equipped with the (optional) S1 switch, which I'm sure everyone knows does not add much to the sound of the Precision (and so I have seldom used it) but it is what it is. As mentioned in the title it is a "Diamond Anniversary" model from 2006, and the colour is Transparent Sunset Orange. Because it was a transparent colour, the body is ash compared to the solid colours from that year which I believe had alder bodies.

The bass has sat in its case for most of its life as I've always tended to favour my Stingrays when playing live, though it is a beautiful sounding (and looking) example of a classic P. The photos don't do the wood grain justice, but I've done my best. There isn't a single mark on her, and I would therefore list it in "as new" condition with only the slightest amount of surface rust on the exposed pickup pole pieces (which could probably be removed quite easily). The case only has a couple of minor scuff marks (removable with a bit of elbow grease), and it comes with all the original case candy (truss rod allen wrench, Fender strap, cleaning cloth, case keys, etc.) still in their original bag having never been used. I remember paying close to £1000 for this bass new, and I have seen the market for P basses seems quite varied depending on the particular bass, so I figure I will ask for offers in the region of £800, before I decide whether I want to put this up on ebay. As I said needs must, so I thought I'd see if there was any interest here first.

I am located near Bromsgrove, just south of Birmingham where the M5 meets the M42 and would prefer collection as I wouldn't want to post it. I am also quite happy to accommodate anyone wanting to see/try the bass first. I can accept PayPal or other forms of payment so feel free to make an offer. All the photos can be seen at http://s13.photobucket.com/albums/a296/dswalton/Fender%20P/, but here are a few to give you an idea of what I'm offering up for sale. If there are any problems accessing my photobucket photos, then please let me know. I can also take more photos upon request. I have sold a few items on this forum before (amps, cabs, effects) so I'm sure there are a few people who can vouch for me as an honest seller. I haven't been around as much lately due to our recent arrival, but hopefully that will change in the near future! :)

    Here are the photos:

    And cheers for looking!

  2. Have 2 tickets for the show at the Excel on Saturday June 13th that I can no longer attend. Sux as I just looked at the schedule (should never do that) and Nicko McBrain is running the drum demo this year, should be pretty entertaining. So if you want the tickets, just drop me a PM (first come first served) and I'll post them to you on Saturday free of charge.

  3.
WHoa this is a right bad boy of a head going for PEANUTS!!!

    Buy this you fools!
Already bought! Collecting tomorrow!

    :)

PS. Don't tell the wife, she might have some crazy notion that 4 amps is 3 too many!

  4.
Rob Wright from Nomeansno / Hanson Brothers uses a 300 watt Marshall 3530 S/S head with a tube pre into a Marshall 4x12 guitar cab. He has a brutal sound.
Funny you should mention this, as I bought a 3530 a little while back in an attempt to recreate Rob's bass tone. I spoke to him at a NoMeansNo gig once, after reading about something he said in an interview in a bass mag that was repeated on t'internet, and he did say the 3530 has a "tiny tube" in it which was what helped with that crunchy tone. Just like you have suggested with the tube in the pre-amp, and yet I've taken the cover off of mine and see no sign of any such tube (and nowhere to hide one). I contacted Marshall about this amp and they have no info on it (useful). Promised to get back to me but never have. Rob said he doesn't use any effects and just plugs directly in, and I believe this as I do the same and if I crank it enough, the crunch is definitely there, but this seems strange coming from a solid state amp. Any ideas?

And so I'm not taking away from your original thread question, I have the aformentioned 3530 and a JCM800 Super Bass head and both produce great (and completely different) tones. I suppose as with any amp, everyone's opinions will be different, and if Marshall have had quality control issues in the past, then this will affect this. But I can say I've heard great things about the VBA amp from others on this forum, and my gear is quite old and perhaps from a time when there weren't such problems (but I have no idea) so if you like the sound of Marshall gear then there's no reason why you shouldn't go for it.

  5.
Consider me 'interested'....
As Mrs. Doyle would say "G'won g'won g'won g'won g'won g'won g'won!"

I don't want to have to resort to Fleabay, and promise to donate £20 from this sale to the maintenance of this site.

    :)

  6. Now asking £130 (including 12V power supply and Special Delivery postage).

    From the included "manual":
DHA VT2 Twin Bass (overdrive and distortion pedal)

Uses 2x ECC83 (12AX7) valves to generate classic pure valve tones.
Has 2 separate valve driven pre-amps which can be selected as 1, 2 or 1+2 or bypass, thereby providing 4 selectable tone options, such as Clean, Blues, Crunch and Lead.
Both channel 1 and 2 offer gain settings from fat, warm clean valve tone to rock crunch with Clipping and Boost options. There is a level 1 to 2 control so that you can set the amount of level that channel 1 drives into channel 2 (when 1+2 is selected).

When 1+2 is selected there is a massive amount of gain as the output of channel 1 drives channel 2 producing great compressed valve sustain.

There is a solid footswitch for true by-pass with an effect on LED.

There are ¼” mono jacks in and out as well as an extra ¼” Stereo jack. The stereo output provides a stereo output from the pedal when it is in channel 1 or 2 mode with channel 1 and 2 going to the left and right stereo channels independently of which VT2 channel is selected. This option provides a way of setting 2 gain settings to 2 separate amplifiers or for recording in stereo. The mono output jack provides the selected signal path for your amp.

The VT2 is intended to be used in front of a valve amplifier, but also works well with solid state amps or even recording set ups acting as a valve pre-amp.

The VT2 has a built-in voltage doubler circuit which generates 24V from the existing 12V power supply (included). This serves to add more clean headroom, gain and output volume to the pedal. The VT2 is fitted with a 2.1mm external PSU adaptor for use with a 12V@500mA external supply but a supply of 1.2A or greater is recommended.

    Controls are Gain 1, Gain 2, Clip 1, Clip 2, Boost 1, Boost 2, Boost Level 1, Boost Level 2, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 1-2.
Looking for £130 for this which will include the 12V power supply and Special Delivery postage. If you don't want the power supply, then I can let it go for a little less. PayPal happily accepted.

It's a great "little" pedal, and you can swap out the valves for any valve you like to produce a variety of different tones (I tried it with some Mullards and it sounded fab). The only reason I'm getting rid is I've now FINALLY found the distortion sound I've always been after (from a Marshall amp) and so this is now surplus to requirements. Any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Cheers for looking!

  7. Not the cheap (poor quality) copy currently sold by the bass centre. Bought specifically for a heavy bass I no longer own, so now surplus to requirements. It is the Extra Long version (preferred for bass). Barely used and in excellent condition.

    Asking £20 plus postage.

    Cheers for looking.

  8. Excellent condition, barely used (for some recording) but never gigged. Now no longer required so looking to move on.

    Info at: www.aphex.com/pedals.htm

Looking for £50, with postage costing a little extra. That seems to be the standard price I've seen them go for on here in the past, and they are selling for £99 on ebay. Don't have original box or manual (if it ever came with one) but there is a downloadable one on the Aphex site (as posted above).

    Cheers!

  9. Probably belongs in the accessories forum, but thought more Stingray owners might find this more easily in the bass sale area (mods feel free to move).

Now 2x Stingray Pickguards, Abalone and Tortoise Shell.

All with the truss wheel cut-away, though fits just fine on older Rays with the bridge truss rod adjustment (as tried on mine).

Asking £20 for the Abalone with RECORDED shipping included, and £15 for the Tortoise Shell guard which has a few MINOR chips around the edges (not noticeable once attached to the bass). These are OFFICIAL MusicMan guards (as far as I'm aware).

Both in great condition, and as I have decided to go back to classic black-on-black these are now no longer needed.

    Pics below!

    Cheers for looking!

  10. Someone on the EB board mentioned the foam underbelly of a mouse mat is almost identical to the material used in the original Musicman Stingray bridge string mutes, and as I examine the one currently sitting beside my computer I'd have to agree. Probably too thin to reach a string, but I assume you could possibly stack and glue a few pieces together and it should work a treat.

    Hope that's helpful! :)

  11. I seem to recall there is a difference between the pre-amps in the 2EQ and 3EQ models. I think the 3EQs are cut and boost, whereas the 2EQs are boost only (or something like that) but I could be wrong. I actually have one of each (an '89 2EQ and a late 90's 3EQ) but have never strung them up or tuned them both identical to be able to give a definitive answer regarding differences in sound. They also have different necks (3EQ maple and 2EQ rosewood) but I guess I should do a proper comparison one day.

I like them both for different reasons, but probably more due to the neck differences because of their age differences (the 2EQ has a "finished" neck) though I'd say they definitely sound different. The 2EQ seems to produce the "one trick pony" classic Stingray sound a little better than the 3EQ does, but I'm happy with that.

If you want a Stingray, you probably can't go wrong with either (so I guess that would suggest you may as well save the money and buy the 2EQ). Or as others have said save even more money and buy a second hand one. I thought about selling one of mine, but knowing what they typically go for these days on Basschat and fleabay, I've decided to wait as they're worth more to me than the loss I'd take. I might change my mind once I find a Sterling5 to try. :)
