  1. You are correct sir! I also got him to make a custom 3 band pre amp. The pots are now neck pup vol with push pull for active/passive of the whole circuit, bridge pup vol, bass , mid, treble.

It sounds amazing now and I really like the pearl plate and wooden knobs now too.

  2. Bass Pick-up Upgrades

Picked these up online for a good price.

A Tasty pair of Seymour Duncan Vintage Quarter Pounder P-Bass Pickups with nice cloth wire and looooooads of winding.

    &

A hefty Seymour Duncan EB Stingray style Alnico Pickup.

This Frankenstein P-Bass with active pre-amp and a jazz neck is soon to become "The Green Machine"

Nice job, looks fantastic and I'm sure it sounds as good as it looks. Would you be kind enough to share details on pre-amp and MM Pup?

Sure, it's a Tone Master 9 v circuit, 2 band eq with bass and treble boost/cut. The pup is a from a SUB Stingray. Sounds great as is, in the future maybe I could buy a SD quarter pounder P and an SMB-4 pickup to spoil myself, but so far I can't complain.

  4. Wondered what a P bass would sound like with an Active EQ circuit and MM pup?

    Me too.

Lockdown does strange things to us all.

Sounds great to be honest, very authentic P/J sound in passive.

Realllllly bright like an Ernie Ball in active mode.

    Lots of low end too.

Nice jazz tones with a hefty thump with the bass and treble up

    Great all rounder.

    Pots

    1 Volume

    2 Pickup blend (3 Way)

    3 Treble Boost/Cut (3 Way)

    4 Bass Boost/Cut (3 Way)

    (5) Active/Off/Passive Switch

  5. From my understanding, Yamaha made the Solid Bass 75 and 55 for two years, seems how well they were received and then launched the Super Bass line..the numbers indicate prices in Yen. The 75 had higher quality materials ie. Abalone inlays, Ebony fret board, quarter sawn neck and a Matoh ( related to Maghogany) body.

The 75 cost too much to make and buy  so they kept the dimensions the same for the SB500s etc, but did away with fancy materials etc. They also sculpted the headstock a bit to move away from the shovel head look, which I actually find quite cool.

This bass has twice as much tone and sustain as a USA Fender.

I love it ! Plus it came with the original case

Well…thatd just be another p in a world of p’s…

This would be an absolute hoot as a reissue. As long as they didn’t cop out and just shove generic j pickup units in it

They are far from generic pups, there is a dedicated pole for each string, hand wound, alnico magnets brass back plates. Fender dream of making pups this good.

  7. My 1974 Yamaha SB-75

Rarer than rocking horse sh*t and heavier than a real horse !

Sounds and plays incredible, mint condition and even has the original case.

Possibly the hardest to find bass they ever made.

    🙂
