  1. Some great advice there guys. It's much appreciated and has all been taken on board.

Happens to pass at the moment that the band recently lost it's singer due to "musical differences", so it's in a bit of a transition period while a new member settles in.

For me, I'm doing much better head wise, and the love for playing has come back rather strongly. I do feel this is in part due to me concentrating on what I feel like I want to play, other than what the band would normally play. Admittedly, I'm rather familiar with the band stuff already.

Thanks again y'all. The fact that people care enough to take the time to respond with their thoughts is super helpful in keeping my head straight !

    Cheers,

  2. I guess this thread is primarily aimed at others who have at some point felt as I feel right now.

Without going into details, my life at the moment is quite challenging, much more so than normal, and I'm not at all in a great head place. This in turn has made me lose any desire to pick up a bass and play / learn anything. I'm also considering leaving the band, as great a bunch of guys as they are. I really think removing it all from my life might give me the breathing space that I maybe need.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone with experience of a similar situation.

    Thanks,

    George

I thought it looked different, but also thought that it was maybe just the angle of the photo. Now you mention it though, the last fret looks like it doesn't hang over the body, like the earlier models, so you could be right.
The 21 fret versions have a similar bridge position too.

A better angle here on a '23 maybe..

That bridge looks to be slightly further forward than the standard Ric bridge. Is the V2 bridge smaller?

I've really no idea regarding specs for the earlier 4003's. This one is a 2023 model

  5. My two Fenders are, I guess Bitsa's:

Jazz: Fender 2008 Jazz body with genuine Fender 2015 Jazz neck. Tonerider pickups and pots

Precision: Northwest ash body with genuine Fender 2005 Precision neck. EMG pickups and various pieces of hardware

At what point does a Fender, for example, stop being a Fender?

At the end of the day, I guess it doesn't really matter to anyone, unless I was to try to sell them and be unclear about their history. As I've no intention of moving them on, it's all rather moot..

  6. I'm looking to get a replica pickguard made for an old cheap Jazz I bought a few years back. Originally the pickguard was white, but I vinyl coated it with matt gold wrap. I'm really happy with the colour, but hate how the vinyl feels when I touch it.

Question: does anyone know where I could sent this pickguard to have a replica built in gold? It's a very unique bass that I can find very little details about, so locating any parts is pretty much impossible.

    Cheers,

    George

  7. A nice problem to have I guess..

We have a 1/2 hour slot tonight at a local charity gig, and I'm really struggling to choose a bass to play.

*I'll be plugging direct into the PA.

*We've keys, drums and the guitarist uses a Strat

*There's a mix of 70's rock and slower stuff

*Choices are: MIA Precision / MIA Jazz / Ric 4003 / Vintage Hofner 500/1. I like them all in equal measure.

I do wonder if a Fender might be better as I'll be coming through the PA?

Cheers. It's maybe a silly question, but I'd like to get the sound just right.
