The old Hondo 2 that is sadly beyond realistic repair....

Jeff Waynes War of the Worlds. This was one of the drivers for me to learn the bass guitar.

I am  50 this year.  I found an old Bass guitar in the loft and took it to a guitar repair specialist, turns out its not a viable repair (its a 1970's Hondo 2) but this got me the bug and I have now bought a Bass (Squier) and learning via tabs.

Never even held a guitar before so full on newbie. Will I have the patience to learn? only time will tell.
