  1. Some feedback from me on a recent transaction.....Frank was a superstar, lots of patience with me as logistics turned out to be harder than it should (living in NI). Frank went out of his way to make it as painless as possible and it went like a dream. A pleasure to deal with. Comms was great, the financial bit was nice and easy and secure and would definitely recommend as a buyer / seller.

So we've broadened the search a bit..

    From Warwick/Mayones to Warwick/Mayones/Maruszczyk/Wal

There's a natural wood theme here..  maybe ACG and Rob Allen deserve a look-in?

I’ve just spent the last while looking at ACG - they are stunning basses. Time to do a search of the forums to see what people’s experiences are

Turned out talking to you guys about narrowing my choices was a mistake! Will have a look at these two

If you want a wal I would just save and wait for a Wal to show up in your price range. The pro series are a bit cheaper.

That’s far too sensible, I keep trying to justify paying the money for one

I have 3 of them (2 customs and 1 off the peg) and there’s a whole thread dedicated to them. As with any manufacturer, some folk have had some small niggles, but overall it’s very positive.

They have their own YouTube channel too.

Lol you’ve got me thinking....I quite like this

I passed on a WAL fretless around 1992 for £200.  I don't know how that makes you feel, but I know how it makes me feel 28 years later. :(

    Frank.

Oh Frank....I feel your pain! I remember pricing one and completing the order form and it would have cost me about 2800.

Thanks 🙂 I love it too! I waited quite a bit to find the one, and at the right price... and I must say I found it!

oh almost forgot that I actually have another Spector, more low key. A Coda USA, one of the first ones (#50). Great one, just totally different style 😉

Can’t find a pic of your other one - what is it?

  8. In fairness, I agree about the J bass - all roads should lead to it. As a young teenager Geddy Lee was an inspiration to me musically but I just don't love the look of a J bass - shallow I know!

Now Geddy Lee and his Wal....that's my absolute pinnacle, throw in Tool and Wal would absolutely be my first choice. If I could afford a new Wal I'd buy one today, if I could get my hands on a second hand one I'd bite your hands off but they are like hens teeth.

I had a dual-humbucker Mayones Viking for a while.  I ended up selling it because the tone didn't fit the genres I'm currently playing (alt-rock and punk) but I must agree with an earlier poster.  The craftsmanship was just impeccable.  A truly gorgeous piece of work and a dream to play on.  Fast, thin,  smooth neck... super comfortable.

How would you describe the tone? If I’m after tune for prog / alt rock then curious to hear

Not enough information to compute an answer I’m afraid. Budget/sound/desired spec etc all have a part to play here.

FWIW - If I had the budget for a new Mayones, I wouldn’t buy one. Plenty more fish in the sea. The one I had didn’t stay long.

Why did it not stay too long?

I've owned a few Warwicks over the years.  My favourite is the Streamer stage 2 neck through. It was sold a while ago. (Regretted ever since.)
Anyway, the reason for my post is that I live in Belfast and still have a Streamer LX4 MIK.  Don't let the MIK put you off.  It's as good in its own way as the German built Streamer LX4 I owned.

If you want to try my Streamer, you'd be welcome to do so.  Either at my home, or at a gig, if we ever get back to gigging.   Let me know if you're interested.

    Frank.

Thank you Frank, very kind. Do you regularly gig?

  12. Interesting - I’d always assumed a neck through would have been more stable with greater sustain. I’m considering either the streamer or the Viking - I like the sound of both from the reviews I’ve watched.

4 strings is enough for me 😊

That'll be the red Spector that is masquerading as a Warwick Streamer (5th Anniversary Ltd Ed); the thinnest neck this side of an Ibanez (slimmer than any other Warwick or Spector) and the lightest Warwick I've ever played.

House fire - I'd save that one and the 91 Infinette that I've owned from new.

My apologies, saw the fretboard markers and assumed it was a Spector

I've had them mounted on walls and some kept in cases but I can't claim to have managed a pic of them all... certainly not at once.  I know at least 10 of them are still owned by Basschatters.   Some of those I presently owned are here but I moved house just after this pic and I've not had the opportunity to get hangers back on the walls.
