Get what you were going to get, you are almost certainly going to be happy with it and then you can worry about playing it rather than working out what to get.

I don't wanna mess up my first 6 string that's the only reason I'm so cautious about everything before I buy :) But my mind is very clear now. Did hours of research on the neck, scale, string spacings and ton of videos haha I guess I'll be going with that Ibanez SR306EB.

Don't be too swayed by my opinions on basses I've never seen or played! Ibanez must have chosen to go with named brand pickups for their more expensive model, doesn't mean they are necessarily better.

Maybe ask this dude on Youtube, plays a lot of metal and has the SR:

Haha already checked out his video and he replied to my comments on this same video. Told me that the PowerSpan are superior to MK1s and the bass is ultra light and very slim. So I'm firm on the SR306EB now. (1 day remains until I order :p)

If you buy a bass because it has certain pickups, your decision is strange.

The feel of the bass including playability and all ergonomic aspects mean most. The sound can be tweaked via pedals and changing electronics, pickups, and strings. Ergonomics you can not tweak with electronics.

Ibanez it is then. Thank You! Actually I could not play the bass before buying it that's why I'm knit picking everything up.

D'uh! Gotta be Darkglass (see Spector basses).

Ok sorted - mods please close the thread 😂

I was asking because I'm gonna buy a Cort C6 Plus which has the Bartolinis but someone suggested me to check out the SR306EB which has the PowerSpan pickups and now I'm confused again if I should buy the Cort or not.

Frets will wear at the same rate, i.e. very slowly. Stainless steel strings will produce more wear than nickels. I wouldn't make it a factor in the decision making process unless you prefer the feel of one fret type over the other. Many bassists prefer the thinner vintage frets, for instance Dingwalls come with them, and also new Fenders.

Wow. Now I'm back to Square one! I checked out the SR306EB in depth and I really love the Split Coil system on it! But how is it that the more expensive series SR500 has the same electronics as that of the Cort C6 which I was gonna buy?

Wise to wait 2 days before ordering, You'll probably change your mind at least once!

Just looked up that SR306EB you were looking at and I'd be tempted by that if after a 6 string. I like the fact it has coil taps plus a fairly unique (in that I've never seen it before) 'powertap' option that gives you the growl of single coils combined with the low end of humbuckers. Not sure how that works but it sounds good for metal!

Ohh yea I had liked that bass a lot but it has medium frets and I think they wear much faster than the jumbo frets?

  7. Ok so 2 posts later I’ve got down to this bass.

Does anyone owns this bass or a similar series bass? If yes please let me know if I should get it or not?

I was on a budget of 400 Dollars and thanks everyone for helping out! If you guys have any last minute suggestions, yall are welcome! I’ll wait for 2 days before ordering:D

  8. Ok so I’m posting a modified version of my older question because I agree it lacked a lot of information required.

    Here’s the deal.

I live in India and there’s only one website that I could buy a bass from and that is www.bajaao.com  (Any Indians who knows a better one please let me know)

All other websites like Sweetwater , Thomann etc would cost me very high import duties.

So here’s an insight of my budget and what kind of music i’m looking to play on the bass.

My Budget is 400 Dollars ( Around 29000 Indian Rupees)

I wanna play Necrophagist , Maiden and Opeth.

Can you please visit the website ( www.bajaao.com) and find me a nice bass that suits my needs? Because that’s the only place I could buy the bass from!

Please don’t ask me to go out and play some basses myself because my city doesn’t have any big music stores and everyone in my city gets their instruments from the website I mentioned.

So I can’t actually play them before I buy them.

    Preferably a 5 String or 6 String !

    Sorry for my bad English!

I had a Cort A5 years ago and it was an absolute corker so I would probably have to say the B5 is what I would go for.  That being said, some people aren't overly enamoured with the Bartolini's in them but they sound perfectly acceptable and bass-like and I never had any complaints.  The only downside with Cort is that they are not a cool name brand, there are no legends on their roster.  What they have got going for them is that Cort actually make most companies instruments for them so they absolutely know what they are doing and they offer quite a good deal for their price, I've always thought.

I don’t actually care about the brand name..I already have a Cort X300 Electric Guitar and I absolutely love it. A5 is actually my favourite one..but it’s very expensive for my budget (mine is 400 dollars) . If you could suggest me a better option for my budget, it would be a great help! Mostly gonna play Necrophagist, maiden and opeth!

If you want to buy new then Thomann have an excellent return policy, will be able to buy a few of the ones you mention and return the ones you don't like. But I have found that using a bass for a decent amount of time is the only true test, sometimes a bass I didn't like with a little adjustment here and there and a different type of string will become my 'go to' bass. If at all possible, second hand would be your best bet, even if buying blind, as you can use it for few months and if it's really not doing it for you then you can shift it on with no loss, and if you buy wisely you could even make a profit.

I live in India and Thomann or any other bigger websites would cost me a lot of Import Duties. There’s only one website (www.bajaao.com) from where i buy my instruments. If you could checkout that website and suggest me a better option, that would be  a great help. FYI my budget is 400 dollars and i mostly wanna play Necrophagist, maiden and opeth.

‘Good tone’ is subjective though - e.g. any bass I’ve played with Bartolini electronics has sounded really dry and dull, so for me I would probably skip the Corts. I had a Ray4 that sounded pretty good to me, I love the Stingray sound so would probably choose that from the list if buying blind (deaf?).

If a passive PJ might float your boat, I’d look at the Yamaha BB435 also.

Thanks a lot that is very helpful! I was rooting for the corts because of their electronics! the bartolinis and Markbass EQ but you’re point now makes me more inclined towards the Sterling. Just for your information, I wanna play Necrophagist , Maiden and Opeth mostly..and my budget is around 400 dollars so it would actually make sense if you could suggest me a better option other than my above mentioned basses in that price range.

What is a better tone? No-one makes a bass and things 'lets give it a bad tone'. I have played the Ibanez and the stingray. They both sound fine but they sound different from each other. Personally I would go with an ibanez because I like thin necks (although the 6 is hardly thin), but most people don't get on with them. The corts are probably going to be similar to the ibanez.

I suppose you are going to have to go for a shop with a good return policy.

However, for the new price of any of those your options for second hand opens up more.

Hi! I mostly wanna play Necrophagist , Maiden and Opeth and All three have a very different bass playing. So can you suggest which one fits the kind of bass playing on these bands?

Don't make lists, go out and play all the basses you can find.

I'm not interested in making lists either and I really want to go out and play each one of these before I buy! But my city does not have any good music store let alone a bass store which would actually have the ones I mentioned in my "list". I gotta buy online and that's only when I get to play them.
