  1. Hey!  These 5 things are pretty tough but if you can stick with them they'll help you get along way!

    1) Transcribing - simply tunes at first (jazz, blues or funk)

    2) Take a one bar idea that catches your ear from the above, learn it and play it in all keys

    3) Now create your own variation of the above and repeat step no.2

    4) Learn the 'Guide Tones' to Jazz songs (3rd and 7th of each chord and how they voice lead to the next chord)

    4) Sing your ideas! Scary but I've found that singing is more musical than letting my hands take over talk too much!

Any questions let me know 🙂

  2. Hi Mark,

I good place to start is playing some scales with just your thumb/slap as this will help develop your accuracy. Do you know if you are striking the string with your thumb parallel (Marcus Miller and others ) or across the string (Flea)? Both are fine though achieve different results. Also, have you written the bass line you want or is the aim that the slap technique will give you new ideas for sound and rhythms?

    Cheers,

    Simon

  3. Hi Guys! I'm from Australia though live in Berlin and Bavaria Germany now. I'm a Fender guy mainly but sometimes play a Yamaha BB 5 string. I play all styles though my main gig at the moment is Will Jacobs (Chicago) Blues and Funk.

Looking forward to hanging out with you all!  !
