  1. She's a pretty little thing. Seafoam Green or whatever the equivalent Dano colour is. In pretty good nick - couple of marks and blemishes which I've shown on the picture. I guess you either want one or you don't.  It's long scale which, if you've played one you'll know and never forget, means very long. I just haven't got on with it. I was going to stick it on a wall but that's really a fate no bass guitar deserves. It should be played. Bought 2nd hand pre-lockdown and I have used it for one rehearsal since then and minimal playing at home. It's strung with flats which is nice.

No case so collection only  - or meet up somewhere appropriate. I'm based in Cookridge in Leeds.

I've heard of them, but have never seen one in the flesh. I'll add it to the list.

There aren't many Superlights in the wild! I went looking and if I didn't want to by a  custom one I could only find 3 4 string versions for sale in the whole of Europe. I ended up buying one that was shipped to Leeds from Madrid. Guess what - it's superlight! Haven't gigged with it yet but it feels lovely to play.

  3. Sod it - went for the Redburst in Spain. Did more reading, thought about my back, what I need is something pretty versatile and ultra light that's of impeccable quality. Didn't think I'd get much better for the cash.

Now I have to think about the various things I could do with flogging to compensate US Telecaster anyone? How about a Sire V7, Danelectro 63 Long scale, Jack Casady Signature Epiphone in gold, Revelation RPB65, a Sterling Sub in Walnut, a Trio pedal or a Korg D1600 multitrack recorder, or even a Sheffield Wednesday season ticket anyone?!

I can speak for Sandberg happily and say that if you haven’t tried one before, th  et are incredibly consistent across the range in terms or neck profile, they are all plek’d etc. If they have a MarloweDK in store - that is a different neck profile to the others.

There is a PMT in Leeds - you could try them and see - it may be that the feel is a non starter for you no matter what the weight is. I presume they would also have a Stingray Special to try to.

If you like a Sandy you may then opt for a blind buy new knowing you can in all likelihood send back, or jump on a used one if it becomes available?

    May be a plan?

    This is their Leeds stock.

Aren’t all shops allowed to open on Monday?

Maybe you can find somewhere that has as many of the ones you like in stock and have a noodle

I’ll Google furiously but I can’t see there’ll be many Sandberg SLs or Elwood Ls close by. Bass Direct is a 5 hour round trip and I’m working.

I confess to having become a recent Sandberg convert. However, I also own a 7.8lb Stingray Special (Aqua sparkle) - have you tried the Stingray Special? Absolutely brilliant, more versatile than its predecessors and super light too.

That’s what actually promoted my thoughts. When I saw they were round the 8lb mark I was interested. New they’re a bit over budget and there’s very few second hand about. Likewise the Sandberg SL basses. Few and far between.

Another vote for a Sandberg Super Light.

    I have a TT4 and it's fantastic.

I can only see 2 4 strings for sale that are in stock anywhere. On is a TT and I already have a jazz style Sire so was going for something different. The other is in natural finish with no fret markings on the front of the neck. Looks a bit austere. Bass Direct quote a 9 month wait for a custom model and I think I'd probably burst!

I also suffer from back and shoulder issues and found my Fender Jazz Basses getting increasingly difficult to use. I took a punt on a guitar for sale on this forum and it worked out great, a Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass. Much lighter than a conventional Jazz Bass, very fast neck as well. I am more than happy with it. Cheers.

My old Jazz felt like it was crippling me!

Would this actually work though? Surely a big part of the Stingray tone is the MM preamp?

I'll be honest it's the aura as well as the fact that I want to be Bernard Edwards and Cliff Williams

    In demand then. ;)

There are very few 4 strings kicking about. I'd be happy with a VM or a TM, I'm thinking a 4 and I'm not a fan of the natural style - although I haven't seen one in the flesh.
