This landed two weeks ago and due to a bout of ill health I'm just getting around to this post.  My humble apologies bass brethren, I throw myself to the mercy of the court.

    p.s.  It's a cracker.

Rather than re-post Alan's pics please see the web page here:  https://acguitars.co.uk/project/0500slg4-32/

I did manage one pic at ead towers though:

Love the Krell shape, that's a winner. You weren't tempted to go with the multicoils and filter pre?

I’ve always been tempted with the multi coils. I have the filter pre in 2 or 3 of my other ACG basses and I love it. My plan is to get an Uber build as ACG calls it with the multi coils etc for my 50th. Thats a few years away yet but gives me time to decide what model I’d like and to save up for it 😀.

That is beautiful, I love the colour choice with the fingerboard wood.  I have owned an ACG recurve 5 string for a few years its only 34inch scale but the B string feels great.  The 35inch must make if feel thunderous.

    Enjoy dude

That's a beauty. I had a superb Krell from Alan but sold it on as it was too heavy for me.  Great basses.

Very nice mate. Shame you had to part with it. Get a lighter one ordered 😀

  8. Hi folks

Just wanted to show you another fantastic ACG I’ve acquired from the great Alan Cringean.

This one is a pure joy both in terms of feel, playability and tone. Alan’s work is second to none.

This is the Krell model, 5 string and 35 inch. ART maple on top of a swamp ash body. Ash neck with wenge strips. Fingerboard is flamed sycamore with blue dots from the bass body. Luminlay side dots. Hipshot ultralite tuners and Hipshot bridge then finally a John East Uni Pre 4. Pickups are a FB humbucker in the neck and an RFB humbucker at the bridge. This combo can cut through the mix no problem.

If 2024 is the year you’re looking for a custom bass then get into ACGs website. Alan is a pure gent and any communication I’ve had with him has been top notch.

    All the best

  9. Christmas Day has come early for me today. I have been extremely lucky enough to acquire an absolute beauty of a bass from the master Alan Cringean of ACG.

The piece is an absolute dream to play and the tone from it is exquisite.

This one is the Finn version, 5 string with a 33 inch scale. Incredibly smooth, comfortable and a joy to play.

The body core is black limba with the top wood being ebony with a blood wood accent. Headstock is ebony matched. The neck is 3 piece maple with a bloodwood fingerboard with ebony blocks. Stunning!

Hardware is a Hipshot bridge with Gotoh tuners.

The pickups are ACG SB70 single coils paired with a John East Uni-Pre 4 preamp.

It plays incredible and the pics don’t do it justice. One tasty bass. Alan as usual was excellent and a gent as always. The craftsmanship is second to none. If you’ve ever been in two minds about committing to an ACG build then don’t. Have a good look at the website and the various options available to you and contact Alan.

    Now for the pics IMG_1849.thumb.jpeg.f084f7585c46a4331fc5bc0ded9efcb1.jpegIMG_1847.thumb.jpeg.4163f3e12819ca8bd570d60537432b10.jpegIMG_1846.thumb.jpeg.368e8eb076d0f0eaf1db755ec0e11177.jpegIMG_1845.thumb.jpeg.db76ecc5e6d4c402c52b3e03eed35b81.jpegIMG_1848.thumb.jpeg.ed1b354fc81dc24c7776008d41dd9e70.jpegIMG_1850.thumb.jpeg.299161c0830817491cd60e0835886ac0.jpeg

  10. Hi folks

It’s always a good day when a new bass comes into the fold. I know many members here on Basschat will be aware of the extraordinary instruments built by Alan Cringean of AC Guitars based in Dumfries, Scotland.

I have 3 ACG basses already however this is my first fretless and with many hours spent on this bass I just wanted to comment on how glorious it is.

This Recurve model is built using Turkish walnut top with gold resin on a swamp ash body. The neck is an ebony fingerboard on an ash/wenge neck. The pickups are an ACG FB Humbucker at the neck and an ACG BZ1 pickup at the bridge. This is my first time using the BZ1 pickup and it’s the best pickup I’ve ever heard. It delivers such a rich, solid and versatile tone that compliments the FB humbucker perfectly.

The preamp is the ACG Dual Filter Modular 4k type. Volume, blend and low pass filter control for each pickup allowing for very accurate and versatile adjustment of tone which I’ve found extremely useful playing in different venues with varying acoustics.

The DFM developed between ACG and John East has recently been made available separately so if you’re in the market for a filter preamp the quality and versatility of the ACG DFM is in my opinion the best. Hardware is by Gotoh and I opted for a mix of gold and black hardware to go with the gold walnut body which I think goes pretty well.

The playability is exceptional. It’s a lined fretless with Luminlay dots on the side of the neck. The ebony fingerboard provides a wonderful balance of both warmth and brightness delivering  all that luscious fretless mwah you could hope for. The strings are Dunlop flatwounds. Ive never used them before but so far I’m really enjoying them.

I’m not sponsored or affiliated with ACG in anyway I just think that the instruments Alan builds are world class plus he has always been extremely responsive to any questions or queries I’ve had. I can’t fault the customer service at all. Alan is an absolute gent.

If you’re in the market for a custom build have a good look through the ACG website on builds and options. Alan also does some stock builds which does take some of the pain out of trying to make your mind up on the various custom options available.

ACG basses are world class in every department so If you’re aiming for a custom bass then seriously consider trying one out. Just be warned once you start it’s hard to stop 😀

Loving this bass is an understatement really. It’s exquisite and I can’t thank Alan enough for it. Enjoy the pics.

    Cheers
    Stuart
