    Nordstrand Starlifter Preamp?

     Phil Jones Bass PE-5 Preamp?

Has anybody done a test with both these preamps? I'm looking for something to drive FOH directly and play with inears. The thing is that, whatever I can find, there's no dealer anywhere that has 'em all in stock.

I play fretless, fretted (both Jazz Basses), Music Man stingray, P-bass with flats and double bass. I want some tone shaping, but I don't care for a distortion or other effects. I already got a Origin Effects Cali76 which is absolutely fantastic, so I like it simple and straight forward.

I need the high impedance input for the piezo of the double bass. And I want a clear and crispy sound overall. I looked at several options:
    Nordstrand Startlifter
    Phil Jones PE-5
    Two Notes Revolt
    EBS Stanley Clark
Even gear like the new NUX, IK Multimedia's Tonex or more analog stuff such as Markbass Vintage Pre, Tech21, Ampeg, DSM & Humboldt Simplifier Bass, Ashdown Pro DI and the lot.

Every time I think I found it, something seems to be missing in the design. No HPF, no high impedance, no tuner out, no AUX or headphones... maybe I should develop my own! Too bad I don't know anything about electronics.

I live in The Netherlands and the budget is something around €300 to €600. But solving the quest is more important than saving money.

    So please share you're experiences...

  3. I was wondering: how cool would it be to have a two way wireless system. All built into 1U-rack. That way your inear-monitoring and your bass-signal can run via only one belt pack, and you need only one unit to do it all... Mono send, stereo return. How hard can it be?

Welcome! I'm just in the process of tying down a date for a showcase in Amsterdam this year- Holland's a lovely country to play in, can't wait to get back there!

Maybe we could set up an exchange project... :D I would really like to do some gigs in the UK!

  5. Hi all,

I'm a bassist from the Rotterdam area. I live quite near the world famous windmills of Kinderdijk, just across the river.

Besides playing the bass, I'm also a keyboard player and a producer/arranger.

I love all kinds of music: rock, soul, jazz, funk, even classical. I play in several bands. Volgende X Beter (Better Next Time) and the Reuben Hoeksema Band as a bass player. And in The Lounge Factory and The 50 Five as a keyboard player. I am also the conductor of two choirs.

My bass and amp collection at the moment consists of:

    1. Sandberg TM4 RW Cream White. All original.
    2. Squier Jazz Bass VM fretless, the Frankenstein Bass. DiMarzio DP123 pups, Gotoh 203 bridge and Fender/CTS pots and wiring.
    3. Fender Standard Jazz Bass LPB MN with EMG-J-set.
    4. EBS Reidmar 500, EBS Classic 112, EBS Classic 210.
    5. EBS Multicomp, Line6 Relay G30.
