Have you considered just keeping one bass in each country? Gives you an excuse to buy another bass, after all.
I have indeed considered this in the past, but the reality is that each year I may have new basses while I'm in the UK. Some of them are purchased in the UK, while others are custom-made and shipped to the UK after completion...
Another issue is that every time I return to the UK, I often go to new accommodation - I haven't found a suitable place for long-term rent yet, so sometimes I move to a shared house and sometimes to a student flat. So when I leave the UK, I either have to store those belongings for several months(Which may cost more than the shipping fee and tax), or take them all back home with me.

This company has shops on every terminal at Heathrow: https://www.excess-baggage.com/
It seems like they don't offer a service to deliver from my doorstep in Cardiff to the airport terminal. I guess I need to contact them and inquire about it.

Get a coach instead. It'll take longer than the train, but would get you directly to the airport and will be cheaper. You may have to pay a small surcharge for excess luggage depending on their policy though.
Oh, I think this could be the best option. I found that there are indeed shuttle buses to the airport. I can ask the bus company to see if I can get a baggage cart right after getting off the bus.
Even if I purchase an extra ticket for the bass, it would still be little cheaper than buying a train ticket to London!

Oh, The adivse to this question might determine whether my next custom bass will be a short-scale detachable travel bass or an archtop....

So I already know how to fly with a bass, but the problem often arises when I need to take international flights from London. It's quite a challenge to travel with a large suitcase, a bass hard case, and a small carry-on case on the train to London. As an international student, I don't have the time to get a driver's license and rent a car.
In the past, when I had to return to my home country, I would usually ship my bass ahead of time. This not only incurs high shipping costs but also taxes - yes, I have to pay taxes multiple times for the same bass, even though it's been in my possession for many years.
So, I'm wondering if there are any companies that offer a service to ship and store my bass at Heathrow Airport?
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

All of my recent bass purchases have been shipped by Parcelforce.
Although they all arrived safely, but as a receiver, not being able to track when they arrive at your doorstep in real time is painful.

Ns Design WAV Omni bass with a (maybe French?) bow
Body& Neck: Maple
Fretboard: looks like rosewood
Tunning is BEADG
BOOMERANG STRAP SYSTEM
Gig bag
Bow and resin*A little chip on the bottom.
Well, it's a Tuesday night, I'm scrolling through YouTube, and I stumble upon a series of double bass videos. The deep, rich tones, the elegant players, the sheer majesty of the instrument - it was a siren's call. Before I knew it, I was on eBay, and an NS Design Omni Wav Bass was on its way to my doorstep. But, you see, my friend... I've never played a double bass or even a fretless, my fingers, so used to the familiar frets and strings of my bass guitar, were lost on this new instrument...The cold reality of my impulsive purchase hit me like a slap in the face (or should I say, a slap on the bass?).
The price was so low because that was the price I got from eBay.
The price is 350 collection in Cardiff only.

Thank you all so much for your interest in this matter, you have made me feel the warmth and human touch of this community!
I have now contacted the shop and the shop is willing to withhold the sale of bass for the time being until the police have completed their investigation.
As for the police, a officer asked me to report to the national fraud and cyber crime unit and re contacted him again, which I already done. I hope to be contacted by the police again in the near future.
Thanks again for all your help and I hope we can get a good result!

Wow that’s really terrible, where is the justice!?The officer in charge of my case even told me to check the bank account again carefully to see if I had missed the money being transferred in (After 3 months from the time I was scammed). Their attitude really shocked me😥

@ymdtzx - is this now a resolved issue? Did you get the bass back or your money back?
Unfortunately not, although we had very strong evidence but the police did not take any action and closed my case last month...We were disappointed in the competence and attitude of the police...

I'm really frustrated and saddened that you've come to our country and had an experience like this.
It's not clear in the thread but have you reported it to the police? If the bass ever appears again you will need the case number they give to you. If you know this already I apologise.
Yes, I have reported to the police and got the case number.
Although this happened to me, I know it's just a small percentage of the rotten people that come from every country. The deals I've had and the bass tutors I've found on this forum have been very nice gentlemen

Sorry to hear this happened - disgusting behaviour.
I live in Cardiff so will keep an eye out for you. I would check Cash Converters on Cowbridge Road East and ‘Deals’ on City Road.
Thank you very much for your help, the officer also mentioned to me that I could bring my case number to the negotiation if I see it in the pawnshop

@ymdtzx If someone spots this for sale would it be best if they sent you a PM? Have you made the police aware of the theft and if so would they help you recover it? Its quite a distinctive instrument, there aren't many Moon basses around, and there isn't a massive market for 6 string basses (well beyond my limited needs and capabilities). As mentioned above there is a chance someone on this forum might see it up for sale and I'd like to think the law might catch up with the crooks some time.
I would be very grateful if you could give me a pm, and I think six-string moon like this are very rare in the UK, considering that most Moon mbc are generally with an uncoloured wood top....
I think he's more likely to sell to a pawn shop.

@ymdtzx - did you actually see the money in your account? Or did they just show you their app that made it look like they had sent it? The AIB frauds I've read about all suggest that the money doesn't ever go into the victims account, instead they take the word of the fraudsters that it has left their account based on a fake bank app.
I didn't see the money arrive in the account and I believe he did more because I had no problems with a number of gentlemen in previous face to face dealings and I didn't expect anyone to scam on a six-string bass like this....

I'm sorry, I'm an international student so it's also possible that my understanding of "Check" is wrong, I thought you just wanted to look at the bass and then see if you were interested. if I understand correctly now, should the correct meaning of "Check" be "Hold"? It's my own fault anyway.

Was due to check the bass out this Weds by arrangement but the seller went for a cheeky quick sale in the meantime. Always best to deal with Basschat people, next to no chance of getting ripped off.
Hope you get your cash back somehow and that something fitting happens to the tosser who rolled you 👍

This is a Moon that I bought directly from Japan and according to the seller it is a custom order, I did some research myself and I think it is correct as it is rare to see a MBC-6 with a neck though in this colour. The blue colour looks different in the presence and absence of sunlight, when there is not enough light it looks more like dark blue.Mahogany body core, Flame maple top and backWenge and maple neck, ebony fretboardThe pickup is Bartolini with XTCT+MCT375 preampString spacing is 17mmWeight is close to 5kg or just 5kg.The crack in the neck area should only on the finish and not reach the wood, it does not affect the playing and sound. The action right now is very low, the truss rod I tried still turns easily, but I didn't make any major adjustments because I don't know how to set a bass...Audio or video recording is available, if interested please pm me directlyThe reason for selling is that I find the 6-string still not manageable for me...The current price for a brand new custom one seems to be around £3600 WITHOUT shipping and VAT, I think this is a great opportunity if you are interested in the moon flagship modelThe price is 1350+shippingNow available part trade with apollo solo or twin USB versionScam Warning!!!
My Moon bass was just stolen from Facebook marketplace today
A man meet me and used a fake AIB bank app to transfer money to me and I let him take the bass.
I'm not sure what needs to be done with a post, but let's just want to make a warning
