    I find it sad that Bridget Kearney didn't make the cut. She's a beast and sings to boot. If she can throw down with Joe Dart, she's ace in my book. I was glad to see Sara Lee on the list. Her live work on 1200 Curfews is pretty stellar.

    Ok, this is NOT mine... but it is nearly the combo I want on a custom bass ( I was ebony as well ). Holly is tied with my favorite top on a bass.

     

    I personally own a Oly white P bass with tort ( of course! )

    Hrm, been a good while since I've gigged if I'm honest, but the ones that seemed to translate well from year ( decade ) to year ( umm decade? :) )

    [b]Mustang Sally[/b] - if you want the girls on the dance floor, you have to have this in your arsenal.
    [b]Another One Bites the Dust[/b] - If you have a half way competent singer who can sell it this kills.
    [b]She Sells Sanctuary[/b] - Inexplicable. I can't figure out why it always seemed to go over well. My bands always dug playing it so win/win.
    [b]Dancing With Myself[/b] - Feet on the floor, butts moving = return gigs to the pub/bar.
    [b]Groove Me[/b] - Blues Bro's version. A dirty groove that gives folks something to dance to but at a manageable pace :)
    [b]Lets Get it On[/b] - ONLY if you have a singer with pipes! People get pissed if this comes of as faking the funk. When it's right it's always a crowd pleaser
    [b]You Shook Me All Night Long[/b] - Dudes dig it, gals dig it.
    [b]Honky Tonk Woman[/b] - Another one gals will fill that floor for.

    Any pop culture tunes on perma rotation these days would work I imagine. Obviously from my set list it's been a spell since I gigged regularly. :)

    I am a Yanni fan and make no bones about it. When the french horns come in and the gals hit it right after with the vocals I'm soaring. Fantastic stuff.

    As a kid the first song that I recall really touching me and making me realize just how powerful a tune and it's lyrics can be was this one. As above, I am an unabashed Neil Diamond fan.

    This is about as good as it gets. So powerful and so very empowering. I love this iteration of it. There may be better done recordings of it but this just showcases what the song is about and how it can affect people. Superb!

    A fourth occurs to me. Bowies Heroes at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert was amazingly touching. The look that May gets near the end ... just so in the moment and so forlorn looking. How can you not be touched by that?

    My very first bass was a 1979 T-40. I got it because Ross Valory played one and I loved his bass and tone on the live Captured album of which he played the T-40 for. If you want to know how it sounds in the mix, give that record a listen.

    One of my favorite Levin gigs was this one. You can see that Eddie, in the prime of his rock god status was totally vibing off of Tony's energy. Tony kills on this song too. The recording quality is suspect but you get the idea.

    I've learned that any gear snobbery I may have harbored was smacked in the face a tad when I bought, and now mainly play, my ( albeit slightly modified ) Squire VM jazz V.

    Being the best human I can be still continues to pay emense dividends in my relationships with others.

    My youngest, Nadean - 14, has finally started to get the music bug and has been noodling about on my basses. She's got a gift for it for sure :) Her big sister is a fantastic woodwinds player and better than averge on keys. I briefly contemplated siring another child to get a drummer for the house band... then thought better of it. We don't need that kind of agravation :D
