1. What's so good about old basses? Do you mean Vox, Burns, Hofner, Ampeg, even old Gibson basses (Ricks the possible exception)? Nope, it's straight into the price of 50's Fenders! Why are they expensive? Fender pioneered the electric bass, everything else followed!

If you want to spend you dosh on a 60's jazz or an Alembic that's your choice, but their pricing is always going to exclude a lot of us (me included). Your not going to find either going cheap. That's just the way it is unfortunately.

  2. Leeroy, I'd pass on this one. Way to expensive, although 70's lefties are harder to find, probably quite heavy and a shockingly bad 'aged' refinish. I've got a black '73 Jazz and the paint wears where the strap/arm rubs along the top back edge, pick marks between the pups and belt buckle wear at the back. The one in the picture was played obviously by someone sitting slouched who uses their elbow as anchor! Avoid unless the price comes down significantly. Nice colour though.

Demeter Compuator with active... nup. Distortion.
Strange. Check out Bongomania's review. He reckons far more probs with active hot signals with an EBS?

That little bug of yours nearly gave me a f**king heart attack! Last year I DJed with my laptop at an outdoor festival. I got about six lightening bugs/thrips/small black bugs like felt-tip marks under my screen which promptly died. Had to have the whole top screen section replaced - 17" MacBook Pro! Laptop out of warranty but Apple replaced free of charge, upgraded to glossy screen and replaced a blown battery - £460 worth of repairs gratis!!! You can imagine my initial reaction to your graphics!

    Any Fender.
    Ashdown.
Having an expensive rig going into massive multi-fx boards.
Thru-necks (even though I like them).
    Any Gibson.
    Wooten/Jaco.

People who pretend to lick their bass - get a boy/girlfriend FFS!
What do you mean "pretend", she is my girlfriend! You should see what I "pretend" to do with the jack socket! I'm a finger bangin' Fender bender!

  6. And another thing..... Why is it on YouTube, even if it's a ten second second clip of a five year girl "playing" her dad's (or mom's) bass in the living room, someone feels compelled to mention she's not as good as Flea/Claypool (insert name), at which point it's statutory for some other critic to mention the name Wooten. Said name will then spark a strongly worded bitch fight for several pages, culminating in speculation about each others sexuality and mother's profession. This tends to be regardless of whatever level, style, gender or age of the bass player's clip. I'm gonna find a Wooten clip and write I bet Wooten could s**t all over this guy (which is probably true).

  7.
The straps I buy are certainly less than the cost of a few pints of beer. In fact, they're cheaper than the cost of one pint of beer. Both ends reach the bass and the bass remains suspended above the floor, which is the basic minimum I require of a strap. Stick a bit of neoprene in (the same as the back of a 50p mouse mat) and all of a sudden they're thirty quid. Ditto making them wider and using the word "Comfort".
I've got four inch steel plate across my left shoulder blade holding it together after it shattered into three pieces following a bike accident (I was pissed on a BMX!) and I really appreciate those comfort straps I can tell you (my Fender jazz weighs a bloody ton but I couldn't part with it. God bless neoprene!).

  8.
I don't know why left-handed basses and guitars exist. I've never seen a left-handed violin, saxophone, piano, trumpet, etc etc, etc.

When I was at school I had to play hockey with a right-handed stick (i.e., the curve end faced me 'cos I play sports left (I write with my right hand though - how f** is that, it's a wonder I'm sane (I think!)) 'cos a) the school had no left-handed hockey sticks, and :) the sports teacher told me there's no such thing as a left-handed hockey stick!
