If you did a short scale in black w/ matching headstock I'd bite! Two pickups would be nice too, but that's a decent modding platform at least.
Should be no problem

Just seen this thread. I do like these. A black and maple short scale would be tempting.
Just about to put in a order for some custom basses. If your interested let me know.

Needs the extra string though for me or I'll never play it, I'm guessing that's not going to be an option?
Yep, I can do that for you.

As with all these bassists (Chowney/Konig/Whitley etc) getting their ideal basses made for them, to their spec, in China, it's unlikely to end up as a massive corporate business for them.

The $/£ rate is now a massive issue as well (today I've seen an American STANDARD Jazz, £1700 :o :o new on FEEBAY).

The only way prices can be reasonable is through economy of scale SO I think it's unlikely there will be a lot of scope for them to arrive at your door custom specced.
I personally think if Jow managed half a dozen Sonic Blue in both 5 and 4 string, even that's a risk for him. It's him that's having to fork out his money with no guarantee of sales.

My personal spec would be Sea Foam Green 4 with J neck profile and a maple board.
In a way I wish I hadn't started this because I've put Jow in an almost impossible position trying to please everybody. There are perhaps half a dozen folk stating an interest, but all with slight variances.

Couple of observations. 40 years ago some of us were slagging Japanese off as poor copies.
Quite a lot of folk, over the last few years, have been waxing very positively about Chinese made Fenders, especially CV stuff.

    Sorry Jow
No worries, I've learnt a lot from it. Mainly my supplier can do more or less what I want. This as give me the idea of starting a custom bass & guitar website so I don't have to carry large amounts of stock. All knowledge is good - Budda or Yoda probably said that, and they were right :)

Well, as the original suggestion for sonic blue with tort guard was mine & now there may be the possibility of a jazz neck then I'm more than just interested. Dots or block inlays on the neck?

    :gas:
My supplier assures me he can do all your mods. :D

Yes please! Sonic blue & tort 5er, phwoar!
That sounds very very nice. I've decided i'm going to order some custom colours. Let me know if your interested?

It's early days in the production of a bass I am definitely interested in, so I will follow the progress with a view to buying one in the future.

The only thing stopping me getting one now is the colour and the nut width, I love sunburst but I already have four, and now I really fancy going for something surfy, and as I said earlier, the nut looks about precision size to me, and as much as I have tried, I just can't get on with a wider nut.
Hi, yes the nut is 42mm. I know what you mean about the Jazz nut. I had a Fender Jap 75 reissue for years and the neck was sweet.

    Cheers, Jow

  8. Hi, my name is Jow and I've just launched my own bass guitar - the Dirtybird.

I'm based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire and I've been playing bass for nearly 20 years.

I've played in many bands from pub bands, function bands, tribute bands & an original band that nearly 'made it'.

I'm also a songwriter, that has had national radio play, a sound enginner, promoter, event organiser, producer etc etc.. You name it I've done it and I'm still skint! Lol

I currently use a Orange bass terror 500 & matching sp212 cab, the old Matamp 120 with matching 4x12 & 2x15 cabs where bad for my back according to my chiriopractor, with a Boss me50b pedalboard. My main bass, before I launched my own range, was a Rickenbacker 3000 SS which I love more than life its self.

Anyway thats me, please checkout my Dirtybird. Would love your feedback. Cheers
