Guys, anybody know anything about Yamaha SB-30 basses. There is an absolutely gorgeous looking one for sale relatively close to me and he's asking for offers.
I don't know if they go for £100 or £1000, can find bugger all on T'interweb, Found Yamaha catalogues back to 1980 but this series appears to have been long gone by then.
He says its 1973, original case and it looks in great nick.
It just looks so different and nicey.
Any help/advice greatly accepted,
cheers,
Karl.

It probably won't be of much help, but according to the yamaha website it was sold in the 70s for some 40k yen - also, it's got 20 frets and is surely some sort of short scale. It appears to have two bigger (and more expensive) brothers - SB50 and SB70 - so I would say this is the entry level model. In any case, these bloody things are so rare they have got to be collectible

I just realised that with it being anonymous a sh*t stirrer could inflame things by negging posts top wind folk up.

My hat's off to you if you're this particular sh*t stirrer. That was pretty darn amusing.

Not many votes though really - 60 isn't very representative of the 18000+ members we have

Yes, but I'd be surprised if you had more than a number in the high hundreds of actually active members (excluding the folks who restrict themselves to the marketplace).

EDIT: Can't the new board version set site announcements like the earlier one? Failing that, a mass admin e-mail should get people's attention (I wouldn't be surprised many are oblivious to the fact this discussion is going on),

Yes and no. Invision (the software of the forum) is kind of like buying a Fender, it's highly flexible and modifiable but it does take someone who knows what they are doing. And just like with fenders most of the "experts" really haven't much of a clue. So finding the right person and paying them can be more effort than it's worth.

Often these problems will be shared by someone else out there and an hour spent googling the problem can sometimes lead to a solution. If it really is something broken in the software and a bug fix is coming there should be a ton of threads out there discussing it. If not we can assume it's a problem unique to BC and waiting for a software upgrade may be dissapointing.

I am SO going to neg your post because of that.

I hardly think an hour on google by someone who doesn't really know what they're after will solve anything. You wouldn't really advise anyone with no experience messing about in a car to go on google to learn how to rebuild an engine, though looking through google results might be useful if you're a mechanic and you're just not familiar with that model. In this particular case, expertise in the matter will allow you to know what you're looking for (because the problem might not even be with the software per se - I wouldn't be surprised if the problem was in the mysql db and a botched upgrade from v2).

5. Well, IMO the fact that there are basses sold at ridiculous prices speaks nothing to the fact that at this price point you can expect a bass to be flawless. Let's face it - this still costs about the same as a month's (net) average wage in Britain, so why would you expect to have to tinker with the instrument to solve issues that should not even be there in the first place?

6. I'm moving away, so I need to downsize as much as possible.

I suppose the Sue Ryder doesn't really need an introduction. The finish is great - there are no sharp edges on the frets, the neck is straight and the tuners are surprisingly good. The pickups are OK but the pots are flimsy. I was planning on replacing them with fancy ones for ages, but kept putting it off and now I have more important things to take care of before moving.

The guitar comes together with the carboard box it was shipped in, as well as a strap, cable and allen keys. I've also replaced strings with D'addario EXL110.

Also included is the 5-way stand it is currently on.

The stuff needs to go today, so I'm pricing at £50 firm, which is a great deal. I can also move the guitar for £35 and the stand for £15 if I've got two separate buyers. Ideally, I'd like to have them picked up from Leeds.

Here's a couple of photos:

7. Hi,

I've got a great little Yamaha RBX200F I might part with. It is black (with the neck painted black too) with a rosewood board and is in good condition, with a couple of dings and chips but nothing major for a bass over 10 years old. Board has no damage.

Neck is lined (which, given my meager abilities, is very helpful!) and thin like most earlier Yamahas (not sure about recent models), which is something I love but know is not everyone's cup of tea. I have it strung with EB flats and it sounds very much like a fretless P should.

Well, i suppose the question is - if it is so good, why am I selling it? Honestly, I'm only doing it because I'm moving a couple of months and courier prices are ridiculous, so I'm only taking 1 bass back.

As for prices, I was thinking £100, which is what I paid for it last year and I've restrung it with the EB. If local pickup isn't an option, I'll throw in a thick (but tatty) rockbass gigbag too.

Anyway, photos. Well, I'm a useless photographer so photos aren't that great. Also, I realized that the finish reflects absolutely everything, so it looks worse in the photos than it does in real life.

8. Dan bought a bass from me.

Simple negotiation, paid very quickly and was very patient, even when the courier took exactly a week to collect the parcel (even though collections were booked for each successive day - bloody UPS!).

Definitely recommended!
