Oh no... not another "What Pickup..." thread.. sorry,yes...
Anyhow, bass is Jazz shaped, Mahogany back, maple top, bird's eye maple neck, ebony board. I'm not afer a vintage sound, but almost one with Rickenbacker growl, punch and treble if you see what I mean. Cavities have not been routed yet, so I'm open to pursuasion. I've read the reviews etc, but thought I would open it to the wider collective - you.
There will be an active pre-amp on the bass, volume for each pickup and bass/treble.
Thank you in advance for all replies! -
Anyone seen http://www.guitarbuild.co.uk/ ? At least the customisable options are there and you can design a 2 piece swamp ash J body, fully routed and shaped so you can do away with the pickguard and show off the wood... £160.

Ok - Just to finish off... Thanks for the advice - After writing this I picked up upon a Warwick 4x10, mint condition.... £140. Well happy!
I guess buying 4 drivers at £85/100 each was a no-no... However a 1x15 cab with a replacemnet driver is more economic of course, shoud I wish to go that way!! -
You may well have a point there, I'm keeping a watch on those auction forums...

TBH This is the way I want to go, I was a Luthier back in the dim and distant past, and made everything myself from wood blanks, so spraying a guitar up won't be too much of a problem.
Regards the hardware (- or shoud I start another thread!) what's popular these days? I was used to making pickup blanks from figured maple and sending them to Kent Armstrong to wind/mould them for me....
I've see some great reviews and comments for Alun Entwhistle's Neo pickups... Schaller Machines? Badass bridge? you tell me! -
Ok Guys, it's probably been done to death but I thought I'll ask...
I have a 4x10 cab that I have refurbished and want to put four new speakers in. The old ones really are... old... and knackered.
The cab does not have a head yet, but it's not going to be overly powerful, 150W ish. It probably won't be gigged either just as rather a loud practice amp. I've decided to learn bass at a ripe old age, having been in and out of bands most of my life. I've worked with guys who have gone through Trace Elliots, Hughes& Kettner & so forth so a 20W practice amy aint going to cut it!!
Anyways, back to the post. Yes I can replace with Eminence, spending around £200, and of course you get what you pay for.
Anyone care to recommend me 4 cheap (hopefully) 10" 50W drivers
Cheers, Steve
