    Simpliest solution would be 1 volume by pickup + tone. Then you can have single coil or humbucking effetct.
    As the pickeups are not the same the humbuckinf effect will probably need to not have a balance in the midle (or both pickup full power) because one will bring more noise than the other to compensate. So 2 volume, or a balance is a prefered solution to a switch to make them parallel, to my point of view.

    I have 2 single coil pickup, and I planed a balance with a switch to make then in serial connection. In your case, because pickups are not the same, individual volume would be needed even for serial configuration.

    Hi all, couple of months down the line on a (previously modified) '65 Gibson EB0 restoration and all is progressing well - all repairs to the body done, frets dressed and polished, tuners replaced and the body is painted in celly. Just waiting for it to dry a week or so before flatting and polishing, and my thoughts have turned to the wiring. I decided to keep the original EB0 mudbucker cavity, and drop a Dimarzio model 1 in. In addition, there's is space for another pickup which I'm going to drop a '51 P bass pickup in that I had lying around, like this:

    What I'm not sure on, is the wiring configuration. The body has 4 holes over the enlarged cavity for pots/switches, and I'd like to fill these. I want to have the option of coil splitting the Dimarzio using a push/pull pot. Can't imagine combining the two pickups but it might be nice to have that option all the same. So my  question is what configuration will be best? VVTT? VVT and a switch? Something else? A diagram would be a massive help too.

     

    The answer is probably really obvious, but I've spent a lot of time going around in circles so would greatly appreciate some input! Thanks again...

    I've got a '65 EB0 which has been terribly butchered in a former life - think bizarre, unexplainable routing, a switchcraft XLR in place of jack for starters. Let's not mention the neck repair... Finally starting a restoration on it, and I'm after some thoughts on pickup options.

    I have an all original '68 EB3 for stock EB sounds and would like this project to end up with a different set of tonal options - nearer the punchy P bass end of the spectrum, as much as a mahogany body will allow anyway. Sacrilege to some I realise, but this EB is in such a terrible way, I can't feel bad about it.

    So, what are my options? Has anyone experienced successfully changing pickups in an EB? Web research has proven inconclusive. I'm not limited on pickup positioning due to the current routing. My initial hopes would be to have two '51 P bass pickups (a la Ronnie Lane's Zemaitis) but the string spacing is unfortunately incorrect other than having one of these right next to the bridge.

    Any thoughts, comments, abuse welcome! :D

    Swapped these out for some Seymour Duncans in my Mexi P bass, don't know a huge amount about them other than what Karlfer (who I bought the bass from) sent me, which I think was sent from the original owner...

    'Its a "Hot Alnico". Last one available from, iirc, a German retailer. It did have a satin finish but I polished it out to gloss to look more like a conventional P pickup.'

    In good working order, don't appear to have had much use at all with original wire intact.

    These seemed to retail for £50, I'm looking for £30 posted in the UK, offers considered. Any questions please ask.

    Made the journey from London to Wigan to pick up a Mexi P bass Karl had kindly put on hold after I expressed interest the day before. The bass was exactly as described (if not better), well priced, and Karl was great to deal with in every respect, a thoroughly nice chap indeed... A lesson in how all transactions should be.

    My only complaint was that I couldn't stay longer for the cuppa that was on offer - but that was my fault for being in a rush to get to Manchester...next time!

    Gibson RD Artist - Moog Board Connectors

    Hello, managed to source a NOS Moog board for my RD - need to also source suitable replacement 3/9 pin connectors that join the pickups and switches to the board before embarking on the (ridiculous) rewire job. Can anyone recommend a readily available solution? Ideally UK based but don't mind ordering from overseas. Here's a pic if that helps...

    Sorry for the late reply on this - bit of confusion over a double post. Thanks for the replies! Managed to source a NOS Moog board, got it cheap enough so going to have a go at refitting it. Beyond figuring out the wiring (and shorter pot shafts - it's a guitar board, so I'll have to be creative with that) I think the key is finding the right connector types to attach to the PCB. Any thoughts welcome...

    Hi all - bought a Gibson RD artist recently - the Moog board is long gone but in its place what appears to be some kind of preamp signal booster - the bass is still active on a 9V battery. Anyway, the bridge pickup isn't outputting the same volume as the neck (which sounds great) - only way I can hear it is to crank the amp right up - which obviously puts it out of whack with the other pickup and it sounds really thin.

    Few questions then.

    1. Can anyone identify this preamp booster? No markings on other than what you can see in the image below.

    2. Any thoughts as to why only one of the pickups is outputting at a reasonable volume? Wiring all seems to be intact - see below.

    3. Any recommendations to another preamp/signal booster that would be suitable for this bass should I need to replace it?

    I'd love someone to do a side by side comparison of an RD with and an RD without the Moog board to see how different they sound!
