1. Hi All,

I recently bought an Epiphone EB-0 from eBay for a good price... it has been looked after and - the main selling point - came already fitted with a Di Marzio Model One pickup. I've levelled the frets, fitted Grover 142 tuners, CTS/Sprague electrics and La Bella 760M flatwounds... she sounds great and is an absolute delight to play. However, I'd like to increase the bass's versatility by fitting a bridge pickup as on the EB-3. I'm sure many people have done a similar conversion and I'd like to know what mini-humbucker works best with the Model One. I've heard that the TV Jones Thundertron is a good choice. Does anybody have any experience of this combination, or any other suggestions? Of course, I could just throw in an Epi EB-3 bridge pickup, but I don't mind spending a bit more if it will give me a better sound. All thoughts and comments welcome!

  2. Hi everyone,

I've been reading Basschat for a couple of years now and decided it was about time to join and have a say. I'm 54, on a 'gap year' from a Pink Floyd tribute band, and looking forward to playing something a bit different - with late '60's psychedelic blues-rock being top of the list. I'm also developing an addiction for buying cheap guitars and customising them! Here's a photo of my Precision. It's a Squier VM with custom paint (Ford Transit Van white!) and a Danish Oil and wax finish on the neck. Pickup is a Wizard 'Thumper', all electrics upgraded, Grover 142C tuners, Gotoh 203 bridge with Wilkinson brass saddles and a brass nut. Strings are La Bella 760's. She sounds great and plays beautifully... and for a cost of about £400. :)

    Thanks for reading,

    Colin
