  1. What I will point out is the strings that come on it are the heaviest set that'll fit any heavier won't fit through the Ferrule for the low E without modification. The dadarrio set that's on it sounds / feels good to me but I don't have anything to compare it to.

I was looking speculatively at those the other day - I think Gear4Music might be a little confused as to what a Baritone Guitar actually is...

(...it's particularly confusing as they stock another model which looks like it might actually be a bari, at least as we know them)

Aye, they have a baritone tele with a 27" scale length - I came to the same conclusion as you they don't know the difference between a bass vi and a baritone... this is definitely a bass vi.

From my own experience with the Squier Bass VI and the Burns Barracuda all my most useable tones in a band mix require the brightness of single coils, and the middle pickup (either on its own on in combination with one of the others).

Interesting... It's described as a Baritone Guitar although the specifications say it's designed to be tuned an octave down from standard guitar tuning.

At £199 it's a very attractive proposition. Any chance you can measure the distance between the highest and lowest strings at the bridge and the nut for me?

    Thanks!

I'll get a measurement later tonight.

  4. Was advertised as E to E and I've tuned it that way, sounds good. The pickups are 3 way like a standard guitar (same as the Shergold Marathon or Music Man Silhouette) - middle and neck only are great still to find my way with the bridge humbucker.

  5. Had what is possibly a stupid idea: been looking at bass vi's most people say nitch item you'll get bored... so: a bass vi is 30" scale a Squier bronco or a shortscale Ibanez talman bass (probably my choice if I do this) is 30", I'm after the Bass vi sound (want to play Cure tunes) more than the actual instrument. Could I get one of these basses and a set of bass vi strings but only use the 4 highest strings as I don't really want a bass vi for the low end - then if I get sick of it use the 4 lowest strings for standard SS bass tones... opinions please?

  6. Well I gave it a try, arrived the other night had a shot through the PA... Best £25 I've spent in a while, get's the bass tones I need - just using the Harmonics knob after setting up the desired base sound gets loads of great usable sounds. I'm not a time served bass player but I highly recommend this thing.

The Sparrow is very nice and a bargain if you shop at Coda currently. It's 98% of a Sansamp at pocket money price.
That said I'm waiting on a Dave Hall Amplification VT1 as I want a real tube for my tube tone.

Cheers for that, £20 cheaper than I thought it was going to be...

  8. Am going to be standing in for the Bass player in my brother in-law's band, not sure how long for (their bass player is getting a hernia sorted) so I don't want to spend a lot of cash on an amp, so I was thinking get a half decent DI.

Been doing a bit of internet research / trawling to see what is in my cheap price bracket and found this:

Anyone tried one would like a more personal opinion...

  9. My new P bass on the bench awaiting it's setup, got a new black/red tort guard on order to get that Geezer Butler vibe...

Don't know where they got the 6.22kg packaging weight from was nowhere near that heavy, and the bass is substantially lighter than my JB-75...
