1. Really lovely bass. Lightweight, lovely slim assymetrical neck, great fit & finish. 35" scale. I've just got myself one and the first mod I've done is to install a set of Hipshot Ultralights (3/8 post versions fit the MTD tuners exactly) which cures the mild neck dive on a strap. Also put 200g of lead shot in the control cavity and she balances really well now. I have far more experience with guitars (where neck dive is uncommon) so getting a balance while playing was a priority. I'm a thumb behind the neck player so supporting the neck at the same time as playing seems counter-productive.

Loads of sounds available which sound wonderful to my ears but I gather the stock PUPs & preamp can be further improved with an upgrade. Just fine for me at the moment though, studio stuff only. Picking her up far more than I thought I would so she must be fun to play... :)

  2. Wondering now if it's a lefty thing.....? The lefty Sandbergs I'm looking at mostly have bridges like this:

Whereas the Right handers are like yours:

I assumed the squarer version was an old design. Doing some Googling I think they are the same as this one made by German guitar-parts company ABM:

I'm sure they're both very good though still wondering why the lefties have a non-Sandberg bridge part..!

  3. Looking around at a few lovely Sandberg (German made) 5's and noticed a couple with what I assume to be the older style bridge (squarer, much deeper, more metal!). I see from Sandberg's site they changed to the new 'teardrop' bridge shape in 2012 so I guess the ones with the older bridges are old stock (thinks - bargaining tool :) ).

Would just like to see if there are any issues with the older style bridges. The new ones seem to have multi-adjustments on the saddles but I can't find a pdf or details on the older style. Are these as flexible for setups? Is it just a cosmetic change?

    Grateful for any opinions.

  4. Hello Basschat folk,

I'm a southpaw guitarist into jazz & fusion who is looking to pick up a decent bass primarily for self-recording duties (easier than me trying to play basslines on keyboards :D ). Found basschat via Googling for various bass reviews and love the vibe and the information on offer here. I've learned a great deal already. What a nice group!

    Cheers
