1. Hi all

A friends bass amp Ashdown ABM RCIII 500 Was stolen from a Gig in Wrexham (north wales) Sat night 9th Feb.

Was taken off the stage in the public by an opportunist. CCTV caught the chap and he even looked at the cameras bust as far as I know Police haven’t been able to identify him.

The amp was taken in its SKB Rack 2u but without it’s Lids. Here is a FB link to the owner and his original post.

Keep an eye out please! Thankyou James

2. For sale is my Olympia OB-3 CE acoustic bass.

Originally it was a fretted Instrument by was converted before my ownership. Nice conversion with a varnished board.

Not sure exactly how old it is. I think about 2005?

I have had it a few years and have only upgraded the pickup. I installed an under saddle KK pickup wired to the old Fishman Preamp. The original Under saddle Piezo pickup is still in place just disconnected.

Bass is in very good condition with small dent here and there. Its a nice sounding bass! It is louder than your normal Style acoustic bases, thats why i got it.

Comes with a large epiphone Acoustic bass case. Will need some new strings but I assume the buyer has a preference on there own string type...

Here is a link i found with some more info; orpheum_olympia.pdf

Can only upload 2 photos for some reason, anyhow PM me i have more i can send!!

4. Forgot to post a reply, yes done a few gigs with it with the K140's now about the same amount as the Eminence Deltas that were in there first. I would say the JBL''s have a little more warmth and more upper mid range attack. The Eminence driver had lots more Bothom End grunt but no upper mid's. Surprised as there sensitivity and slightly higher frequency response say otherwise but hey it is a 15" speaker and I'm more use to 10's and 12's for bass guitar. Overall I'm will be leaving the JBL's in there. They do have a lovely sound too them. I see why they are so regarded by people in the know!

5. Here an odd combo I tried one night, sounded stonking though! V6 and Acoustic 402 and Wal Mk1

6. Here s my restoration in progress of my old 77 Ray. Will do a complete Feed when it's done! It started life as a walnut brown bass and then was painted light blue and then the red when I got it. All the hardware is Gold witch is very unusual for an old Ray. Chaps on the MM forum can't decide if it's factory or done afterwards. Either way it's an old plating finish.. I traded a 1989 Ray for it. Soon found out why they traded it as the neck had a bad bow And the truss rod bullet had split the nut and the wood at the first feet. It's all fixed but was caused by over tightening the truss rod I think..
Was going to put it back to walnut but went walnut stain and a gloss finish. Will look good with the gold hardware! Getting there!!..!
Thanks for looking.

7. Found some K140's after a long search on EBay. Gig this weekend so will see how they go! So far they are a little brighter than the Eminence 15's and far more efficient. Look retro too haha

8. At last I found a 402 cab. It's not the right can to match the 370 but it all works well. Got the cab of eBay with no drivers so after a lot of researching decided on Eminence Delta 15's. I wanted JBL K140's but couldn't find any. Well I did but couldn't get to the seller who had them because of work. The cab is in very good condition. Managed to get Penn castors for it witch just slotted straight in! It's a good can with a nice smooth sound! Very versatile for 2 15's not too heavy.
Not sure of the if its true but the chap I got it off said it once belonged to Jeff Lynn of ELO! No proof but cool to think so if true.

Here with the V6 and the Wal, great sound this setup.

9. My first Bass amp was a home made setup, couldn't afford a proper amp so i made one.

The amp head was a 150W Commercial PA Amplifier 100v line thing with an 8 ohm output. It was given to me by a chap who got it from a frozen food factory. It was the announcement amp haha.
It Was made by "Optimus" was extremely heavy.

And a 1x15" home made cab. The Cab was ace
The annoying thing about this amp was it had a "Clip Limiter" that didn't reduce the sound or anything like that it annoyingly cut the sound all together foe 2 seconds.
So while playing i had to keep the volume just under the clip. Very annoying.

Moved over to a Trace Elliot GP12 head soon after and that blew my mind! I was only 16 at the time haha

10. Has anyone on here got any leads on where or if the old Green Grill Matreial Trace used on the matching V series cabs can be obtained. Trace can't help.

I have managed to get a very sorry looking 8x10 cab that went with the V6 V4 heads only problem is it didn't have thew grill. Would like it to match the material on the front of the V6 i have Green carpeted version.

The steel grill would do i suppose but again i have a feeling these are rare.

Pm me if ayone knows anything of use!

Impressive, you could unleash an avalanche in the valleys with that little lot. :D

Indeed! I will unleash the wrath of my nabours if I turn it on again! Haha

Here is one of my gig rigs!
Recently got the 2x12 to go with the 15" cab have had a few years! Great rig. I have had lots of different cabs amps over the years but always seem to go back to the EBS stuff. Still have my TD650. Incredibly clean gear. And it can go pretty dirty if needed! Sounds lovely with the V6!
Will still keep changing things about! GAS is the problem ! Haha!

13. Here are my Lovely Wal's!
My Wal Pro Bass SN W3148 not sure the date, 80's I think, Will have to see Dave's posts it is all there...

I always wanted a Pro bass Fretless (pickup near the bridge) but couldn't find one in the colour I wanted then "goblin" ( Dave) on here was selling his but a fretted! Never mind you can't have them all! With a trade in and cash I now have one!!
Would never of even looked at a Pro if it wasn't for some Road shows I was engineering on 10 years ago (I'm a sound tech) The House band "bass player had a Pro fretless and a streamer, PFL the Wal OMG every time it was played just captivating to listen to! So from then I just had to have one! He nearly sold me his but he couldn't part from it! Don't blame him! Still thinking of De-fretting it....

As for the Mk2, Well Seemed like the Best progression, plus i wanted to see what a Pro would sound like on steroids.... haha
Only had this about 2 weeks, I purchased it off W11ATO "Rob" Lovely chap! when I noticed it on his FB page. The next day I was taking it home! He had allot of interest, Sorry guys if it was you...

I have to say it is like New!! It is a Mk1 SN W2635 Nov 85. " Brazilian Mahogany" Core, English Olive Ash Faces, Indian rosewood FB.
Well that's what the Cavity cover states The bass is Immaculate! I can't find as much as a blemish or a scratch! It should be in a museum! No fret wear at all! Must of just been left in a wardrobe for the last 30 years!! Rob did play it, but didn't know who the previous owners were. Anyone here?
The only thing I had to completely strip the bridge down as every saddle adjuster was seized. But all good now! New strings, Battery was good but I changed it anyway!
I do plan on gigging the bass, it won't sit around doing nothing now!

14. Here is a Pick of my 370 Head,

Purchased off ebay along with a 270 head about 3 years ago. Unfortunatly that was so bad i had to use some parts for the 270 head, Transformer been the main thing as the 370 had a 110v transformer inside.

I re-capped it, changed resistors where needed, still hass the orignal Output transistors! Some of the Sliders were too far gone but i had some in a box of bits from an old hifi i stripped years ago, knew there was a reason i kept crap like that!...New Tolex and Retro knob's it's all done.

I have to say i love it! I only use it in a rock band i play in as i tend to use my Mark B Little tube for most gigs. But when i play a big venue i know i take this and my Rickenbacker, and they are such a great match! When you switch in the bright it goes twang crazy!! And when pushed it breaks up nice.

This is a strange move for me i usualy like a solid clean bass tone having used EBS, Mark, Trace etc but still like it!!!

I use it with a Markbass Classic line 6x10 or a Peavy I think its a 1810 in rehearsal. That sounds cool too.

15. Cheers for all the info, the ironic thing is I did have a pair of these years ago in a pair or Court Accoustics "Black Box" W bins. But they were just used as bass bins with my pa, sold them for something smaller!
They were huge.
Sounded great. But never played my bass through one.
Anyhow will keep an eye out.
I still think these older speakers will be a good match for the accoustic!

16. HI all have any of you an y experience with the old JBL K140's?

I'm thinking of making a 2x15" cab to match my Acoustic 370. Can't find the original matching cab and want to build a cab styled the same as the original acoustic cab with some vintage K140's.

Could be any other speaker but its the K140 that was used allot in the 70's for bass so was after the old school sound!

Any thoughts?

17. Purchased a WAL Mk1 1985 of Rob, last week was advertised on the Wal FB page but wanted to add my feedback on here.
Recommended, made me a brew and had a good old chat about all things Bass, Great guy! Helped pack the status bass the for the seller above. Must remember to go to a bike shop to get a empty cardboard bike box! When I post a bass Perfect size!! Haha!
Great bass very happy! Can't wait to get it out and play it!
James

18. Has anyone on here ever heard of a chap called Tony Revell?

I had my 77 stingray neck split before the Nut, he did a fantastic repair!

He was based in Newtown Mid wales.

He mainly built Accoustic instruments but would repair, custom build anything. A nice chap as well!

His number don't work and i can't remember where abouts he lived!

Anyone know if he is still about?
