Hi Andy Dye,
You can hire a flight-case from Matt Heighway near Oxford.

I`ve just returned from flying with a bass to New York, I went with United there was no problem getting the bass on the plane but charges have gone up in the last couple of years. I was charged both for overweight and over-size baggage at $500 each way. I have heard that some airlines like Brussels Airline will charge only £15 if your flight-case is light enough. A Stevenson case will be over weight to comply with this. Good luck!
cheers

The best way to prevent the soundpost from coming down when changing strings is to change them one at a time. This will keep the tension on the front. Keep checking that the back of the bridge is at right angles to the front and the feet still fit and are not getting any gaps. It`s best if you can do it on a bench or table. Good luck!

DB maintenance specifically humidifier
in EUB and Double Bass

Hi Lowlandtrees,
Dampits will add unwanted wet areas to your bass which could open up old cracks
I`ve been shipping basses with Boveda packs, they are also useful for daily use if you pack one with your bass in it`s case. It will create a microclimate
My good friend Nick Lloyd demonstrates here how they can be used to stabilise humidity.
