  2. It's with a heavy heart that I'm listing this. I ordered this bass January 20th 2015, and took delivery 4th November 2016.

    The spec is:

    Maple bird's-eye facing
    Mahogany core
    Vintage satin stain finish
    Side dots (between lines)
    Fretless ebony board with lined pear

     

    The band I was playing bass in folded just before I took delivery of this from Paul at Wal, and I have been back playing guitar in my main band since, and I'm looking to finance a Gibson Murphy Lab or Historic Makeover Les Paul. This bass has probably had less than 20 hours of home based play.

     

    In August 2017 the neck was sent to H.G. Thor (Woodwiz, New York) to undergo a full epoxy treatment which has now made this a top pro level instrument. Please note, H.G's wait list was already 4 years at the time this work was carried out, and I went on his list long before the Wal was ordered. I don't know if he still carries out this type of work, but is considered the best in the business for epoxy work.

    The bass is listed on the Wal Registry so buy with confidence

    It plays incredibly either with rounds or flats (I'll put the thomastiks back on before sale).

    Happy for potential buyers to come and try it out (Birmingham, B29). Preference is on collection due to value, but might entertain shipping/overseas etc.

     

    Also listed on Reverb and the bay (100% positive feedback on both). No trades.

  4. Hey Chris - might be worth you looking into Q-tuner pickups - I have some of their BS jazz bass pickups mated up to an East J-retro (with S-1 style mod). Might get you near to that open growly Wal sound - though to be honest I had a noodle on a Wal Custom last saturday and think I might need one :)

  6. For sale is my lovely (and sadly discontinued) Ibanez BTB 555.

    I have used this on a variety of recordings since buying it and it is a fabulous reliable bass.

    It is currently without string or a nut as was previously set up EADGB before putting into storage so will need to be restrung/re-nutted by the buyer.

    There are a couple of dings which I have tried to capture on the pictures, but they are tiny and don't detract from the great looks of this bass.

    I will be sad to see it go but I am pretty much playing 4 string fretlesses exclusively these days for it is surplus to requirements.

    I'll chuck in a Bass Centre Padded gig bag.

    Looking for offers around £450. Collection preferred, but I will ship any where (including over seas as I know these are like hens teeth outside of the British Isles).

    Looking for offers around £300. These are rare and no longer being produced - google them to find out just how special these bridges are.

    Also I have for sale a set of Bartolini 9J's (L/S) (the neck pickup has a slight chip out of the screw hole, but this is not very noticeable when the pickups are installed- these are quite old and the magnets have degaussed slightly - I used this pair for years for both recording and for live up until getting my Hi-A's and Q-tuners, and they are very good warm pickups -particularly when hooked up to the John East preamp or similar - £70

    Collection preferred but will ship for additional cost.

    I'm having a bit of a clear out and trying to raise funds for a new car.

    I have several bits I have collected over the last few years which are now not going to be used (I've fitted a Naimish Bridge onto my '63/66 Jazz and I am leaving it Jaco syle).

    So we have a bridge from '66 Jazz bass (£250 ono)

    A control plate from a '63 Jazz bass (open to offers)

    A pair of dual concentric pots from a Fullerton '82 reissue stackpot Jazz (open to offers)

    Also I still have the set of 4 left handed 1970's Mustang tuners to sell if anyone is interested.

  10. Ok Guys, this is a reluctant sale as I've only just paid it off, but a new car forces my hand (i'm keeping the older v-bass so not gonna miss this too much).

    I've only had this a few months, gigged it once and probably played it a home a couple of times too so it has barely had any use so hoping it will go to a good home.

    I'm looking for about £900 which includes the rackmounts (£150+ on their own IF you can get hold of one) the stagg rack case (is on wheels and has a retractable handle, with the addition that I have retro fitted a power bar at the rear), power cable, 13-pin lead (unused) and the instructions/CD if I can dig them out.

    If anyone wants to try before you buy I have a Roland-Ready bass.

    Collection is recommended, but I will ship if required.

    I seem to remember back from my VG-8/gr-30 days i put some blu-tac under the GK-2a pickup and moved it around on my strat to see if it made much difference with the sensitivity (I used an RMC fan-out box which split each string to a separate mixer channel and added effects individually per string).

    I would advise the recommended proximity to the bridge is mainly to eliminate magnetic cross talk/ghost notes and unintentional string noise/stray harmonics when using [b]pitch to midi conversion [/b]to give it the best chance to accurately convert the string information to midi and not when using COSM effects. (additionally I seem to remember that the proximity to the bridge gave a more consistent tracking of the string due to reduced string oscillation at this point).

    The divided pickup is basically a series of mini humbuckers with individual outputs, and for the purposes of the V-bass i don't think it is AS crucial where the divided pickup is positioned as for the majority of patches it is effectively like running a multifx unit for each string - this changes where you are using pitch shifting patches (alternative tunings etc) where the nearer the pickup is positioned to the bridge, the more accurately it can pitch transpose on some of the patches.

    There are still a couple of sites listing it for sale so might be worth ringing around. Failing that they still turn up on ebay.
