1. Well Rich I have to admit you got me there - a fine line between protesting too much and not enough! I'll just smile sweetly and change the subject. Yes, wide strap -it's in the making baby!
alyctes I will look at those in the morning, thanks :)

2. Why has it taken this long for someone to tell me there's porn here?!? This place has everything ;) oh guitar porn yes I see.
Going to try making my own strap as my conservatory is like a tannery; loads of leather hanging around waiting to be made in to something.
I've met a lot of Johns in my short time here, I might have to stick to usernames to stop me from getting confused. Or just call EVERYONE John... It's a nice name after all. Thanks for the advice John :) x

3. Ooooh Mokl that's also very tempting! Although I'm left with the same dilemma as with the one listed on ebay... My Thunder does play nicely (says she with little experience of what playing nicely or badly would be like) but I really really need something less weighty... Like a Quantum  but the Rail! Ugh. Is indecision a female thing...?

4. Oh no! Chaypup, that is very tempting :sorry: but what if I get it and then a Rail comes up for sale and I've don;t have enough to buy it?! I am bad at decision making...
Darkheart - I have heard good things about the Quantum. Part of what's making it so hard to choose whether to hold out for a Rail or not.

5. Dad3353 - thanks for the welcome! I am totally new to this so your advice is well received. Cheers!
RhysP - I was pleased with it :) there's a picture below.
Dom_in_somerset - See picture below, what do you think?
OldG - I was pleasantly surprised when I realised what it was I'd just bought :)
CamdenRob - Surely you can justify buying one for £40 ;)
iconic - :D :D :D
Jon - Awesome, thanks for the pointer. Will keep an eye on it and fingers crossed
SlapbassSteve - I've had one successful band practice so far - great fun.
Skybone - If I find myself a Rail, you're welcome to my thunder!! I would be soooo tempted by a Raider; I don't mind a bit of 80s garishness :i-m_so_happy:
Norris - For my £40 I was expecting an Argos special, or even a bass from Lidl. Just lucky I guess.

6. Thanks Myke and Dave - I feel I'm off to a good start.
Turk - those links are very informative! Money I can now put aside for my, what's is it you guys would call it? GAS fund...? :D
John - it was a facebook page called Buyandsellsomerset ;)
Jon - I'm certainly hoping that's the case! If you see one, let me know. Please!
adam87 - £35 for a bass still sounds like a bargain to me. I was just lucky. It's not in perfect condition, but it plays so it's good enough for me for now.
rogerstodge - I had no idea they were so common. Probably the only time I'll be in the same boat as other BCers!
DarkHeart - I had seen a couple of Westone sites but google results for ones for sale led me here. Will have a look there soon, thanks :)
Kev - it sure seems that way from everyone's comments. Woohoo!
Lozz196 - You can always have mine when I get my rail if you want...

7. Aha! Thunder 1As are active and passive, so I thought it should still work without needing to change the battery.

And it did!...

Once I'd flicked it over to passive  hahaha newb. Still, that means for £40 I've done pretty well as it all works.

Now in tune and in business!

8. Joined this forum hoping to find a Westone Rail for sale.

In the mean time, was looking for any bass that was nearby and cheap, to have a play around on and to maybe chop as a bit of a project. Found a woman on my local facebook buying and selling page with a "red" bass guitar for sale. I wasn't that bothered as to what it was, and she was selling it an amp, lead, tuner and pedal for £40. Whatever it is, that will do nicely, I thought.

Turns out it's a 1983 Westone Thunder 1A Bass. Not the Westone I wanted, but weird that I end up with one at all.

So yeah, I now have my very own bass. Let the fun begin.

9. My goodness; a sudden flurry of responses!

Bert - I had no idea. Tickling gay fannies could have been your day job for all I knew - thanks for explaining it to me :) Fannies are indeed distracting things which makes me wonder how far I'll ever get with this bass playing business, but I'mma try my best.

Grangur and John, my greetings and thanks to you both for taking the time.

10. Hi I'm Loula from the southwest.

I've arrived here hoping to be united with a Westone Rail someday... Come on, a girl can dream.

In the mean time I'm very interested in hints and tips, well meaning criticism, banter, and information on lightweight bass guitars. Finger callouses and broken nails I can cope with - but my shoulder really farkin hurts after a while, and I refuse to sit down!!! So yeah, advice on that front especially welcomed.
