1. @sharkboy The 802 is initially what got me interested in Markbass. Awesome piece of kit. Just worried that the initial 150w wouldn't cut it at rehearsals with drummer, guitarists and synths. You think it would? Know it's hard to say for sure as it depends on guitarist ampage and drummers style.

It's quite expensive as the 802 is around 500 and then to get it to 250w I would have to buy a cab at about £380. That's why I started going down the route of head and cab. You think 250w would be enough for what I plan? If that is the case it could get the 802 or the Minimark 250 or Nano Mark (300w) and cab. That would come in at around £600, plus speaker cable etc.

2. Hi,

I am trying to get me head around this. I will be buying a Fender 40 Rumble v2. It has a line out. I will be practicing most of the time at home so it will be headphones or turned down low. At the weekend I have access to a practice room with a PA. Can I use the line out to go directly into the PA? (for jamming with drummer)

Thanks,
C

Transport isn't an issue. Will be lugging it out of the house once a week to begin with. Regarding budget, just looking to good value for money. If you can let me know about the Ashdown for £90 offer I posted above that would be great. It appears to have more than enough wattage for my needs and is cheap. Just wary of committing too much money at this stage as I will prob go through a few amps to get the right sound.

Cheers!

4. Cheers folks!

I have the opportunity to buy an ASHDOWN MAG 250 watt RMS. Maximum output 500 watt for £90. Good buy? Also, anything I should be looking out for with second hand bass amps?

Thanks,

5. Hi,

Just starting out...again, and jamming with mate on drums, possibly guitar player too. All just for fun at the moment. Any recommendations on wattage required to cut through. Just something really decent. Play with fingers and don't like plucking too hard. Looking at the Ashdown amps st moment.

Cheers for any help. If you need any more info to get some good suggestions together.

PS Was thinking combo/solid state

Cheers!

6. The iRig HD seems to be along the lines of what I am looking for. Couple of questions.

1. Can I play along to YouTube videos/music in the YouTube app
2. Can I play along to iTunes tracks
3. This link http://www.osirisguitar.com/iphone-guitar-interface-shootout/ states that the signal is not amplified. I have a passive bass and really need to bouts the signal.

Reason I ask is the it looks like you have to launch an iRig app? Is that correct? And from what I know you cannot run two apps side by side ie YouTube and iRig

Thanks
Clint

7. Hi all,

Here is brief explanation of what I am trying to achieve.

I need something to pick up and go, with ease and be able to practice anywhere. After conducting a few searches I immediately can up with iRig, Vox amPlug, Apogee Jam.

I just need to know what is achievable and best suited to what I require. In theory I will have my passive musicmaster, iPhone/MacBook, headphones and a tuition book. Ideally the device would be powered by the iPhone/MacBook. The less cables etc the better. The device needs to allow me to play along to tracks in iTunes/YouTube etc. The amp modelling features are not that important. I will also be burning tracks from lesson book CDs to iTunes and playing along.

Thanks!
Clint

8. Hi all,

I am looking to purchase a vintage synth and just putting the feelers out there. The reason being that I came across another thread on the forum by someone selling a Yamaha CS-5.

Please PM me if you know of anything or have a synth to sell. Pre 90s.

Thanks,
C

9. Okay. So I bought the Steinberg UR22 after reading reviews and considering what I need with regards to functionality. I have to say that it is a great piece of kit. I got the lend of a midi keyboard so took the decision to get an interface with midi in/out as well as the inputs.

Getting a good review of a product was very difficult and there are many factors involved in providing the review, a couple of which are, the persons competence with computers and opinion.

I tried to see through the fact that someone may have set up the interface wrongly, that they hadn't updated the drivers for the interface, that a crackle may have actually come from the instrument (not the interface) or that their computer was severely lacking in memory, CPU or running too many programs at once.

Here is a summary of what I have running and connected:
1. Macbook (2009) 4GB RAM
2. Ableton Live 9 (Standard)
3. UR22 Interface
4. Fender MusicMaster '77 with Seymour Duncan pickups

Bass was plugged into Input 2 with Hi-Z on. I got a perfect recording, no hum, super clean, untainted sound of my bass which is exactly what I wanted as it can be post processed.

Some people talk about the warmth etc of preamps adding a quality to a recording so I can't comment on that because I have nothing to compare the UR22's to but as I say, it's just the sound of the bass. I was extremely surprised by the lack of buzz and hum.

Hope this helps someone else.

Best,
Clinton

10. Hi,

I want to start recording the bass straight into my Macbook. I need the quality to be as good as it can be (I think the sample rate is important here?) because I would like people to have the opportunity to sample the bass lines. What do I need to get the bass recorded onto hard disk?

I have a copy of Ableton and a little Vox. The Vox creates al ot of hum and isn't very clean. I have read a little about DI boxes but as you can guess I am totally out of my depth here.

Thanks for any advice.

Clinton

PS I am just using a wee Fender Music Master so it's a passive bass. Pickup has been upgraded to Seymour Duncan.

11. Hi all,

Sorry but had to start a new thread for this as it's specific to vox amps.

Has anyone out there got/used the AC1 battery powered Vox amp? I know there are a couple of videos out there and various opinions but nothing crystal clear on whether it is good or not.

I like the vox amps and was considering this amp of the Pathfinder 10 for home use.

AC1 pros
Very Small
Doesn't need plugged into mains
Built in rhythms
Input for iPod jams

AC1 Cons
Not sure about sound/volume. Not clear videos depicting the bass coming from the amp

Pathfinder Pros
Higher output
Not much more expensive

Cons
No input for iPod
Larger
Needs plugged into mains

Overall if I knew the bass coming from the AC1 was decent enough for home jamming I would go for it.

Thanks for any advice.

12. Thanks Lozz196. I'll try and source an Ampeg locally just to give it a whirl. I don't think anyone stocks the BA-108, but if I can try another solid state it will give me an indication. Noticed the Ampeg uses Ceramic cones. First I've heard of this. Been out of the game too long so I'll have to do a bit more research. Cheers for your help.
