  1. So many greats mentioned but given JJ and John Taylor have been done, otherwise for me, when I think of Rotosound, the bassist that comes to mind is Kris Novoselic. The tone and sustain is just pure Rotosound.

When I was a kid, I couldn't afford to get any of his amps or basses but I got a beat up Epi T-Bird (still regret losing that bass), a Rat and the exact same Rotosounds ❤️

This makes me despair. Not even slightly surprised it cost $12k...

And this makes me want to vom. But at the very least it was an entry-level package aimed at inspiring young beginners. It was probably decent value for money as well - probably approached the build quality of the Custom Shop Hendrix V...

I was in a guitar shop with my OH last week who looked at a Custom Shop guitar and said, "so people are paying £8,000 for guitars that are made to look like they're broken?" and I had no justification for any of us - I opened my mouth to try and just nodded 😂

  3. Hello,

I have an MXR Bass Envelope Filter surplus to requirements. It has a dial cover missing hence the stupidly low price.

Great little pedal just not getting used.

Open to a swap if you have something you fancy suggesting. Can post (will let you know postage cost if so) or you can collect in Birmingham area, and travelling about in London/Manchester/Wales/Ireland soon so maybe you want to pick it up off me on my various travels!

Pretty sure I still have the box for those who care and will dig it out of my box collection.

Erm.....I posted it as a bit of light hearted p155taking. That was also the spirit in which it was given at the backstage shown - the techs were great. Please view it in the spirit it was posted.

    As you were.....

Oh yes - both can be true! Most of my band are or have been techies, when things are bad it's 95% this attitude and only 5% where the problem is the techies!

We played a god awful festival once where we went on stage SEVEN HOURS late and they asked us to cut our set from 40 mins to 3 songs. Before we went on, our singer asked the techie who we'd spent all night with "are you gonna cut us if we play on?" - he laughed and shook his head. We played on ha ha

Me too, he'd have an @rsehole shaped like a 4003 if he'd spoken to me like that.

I'd entirely lost my voice otherwise restraint would have been absent! I was more annoyed he was telling the audience that my gear was anything but in good nick than not being heard haha

  6. Played a bit of a weird one Saturday. On a stage I usually enjoy, in Sackville Gardens in Manchester, with a really big crowd on a sunny day.

Sound guy insisted we only needed to line check which always puts me ill at ease. Get on stage and the bass amp isn't working - a small Ampeg combo - but before I can press a button he whips it away saying he doesn't want me to touch his equipment and I can go straight in the DI, gesturing at my set up saying to "do away with all that nonsense". Now usually I do have a board full of nonsense but for once it was just my tuner. Don't know what he'd have said if the full pedalboard had come out. I tried to say I needed my tuner in the line and he shouted at me.

He can't get anything through the PA either so announces to the crowd that my bass is broken and shouts at me to "buy a proper one" whilst also shouting at me in general about my bass. It's a Rickenbacker 4003 but sure, random sound guy.

I play the gig unable to hear the bass at all, but have a lovely time regardless. Get back to our rehearsal place to find out - shock horror - the bass is absolutely fine.

A lesson to festivals to book actual sound techs and not just blokes who can just about manage to press play on a playback track.

I also had a horrible bug and had completely lost my voice so couldn't do backing tracks either.

Have to say though in decades of gigging I haven't met anyone who shouted at me before so most people are good eggs.

  7. The Trace stuff often goes for nothing and its such a great tone. I wonder what it'll end up going for but what a classic. I used to play a big rig at our practice suite with some huge I think 8 x 10 cab sitting under it with my old band and it would knock you off your feet.

I bought an Eden Californiwah and then proceeded to fall in love with the sound it makes only to fin pd it needs a 15V supply when trying to put it on my pedal board. Swapped my T-Rex Fuel Tank for a Palmer power supply from Thomann. The PWT12 has four outputs which can switch between 9V, 12V, 15V and 18V.

    https://www.thomann.de/gb/palmer_pwt_12_mk_2.htm

Warning though, it comes with a European  power supply (they don’t make a 3 pin one yet) so make sure that Thomann throw in a free adaptor socket. Works really well with my pedalboard and is slim enough to mount underneath.

Oooh that looks dead good that! I'm gonna check it out. Cheers!

  9. Now now, I don't need any more encouragement to add more pedals to my board! I've been keeping an eye out already for one 2nd hand 😂

I have a very angled monkeydream board which would fit one of these under just great so I'll have a look. Thanks very much.

  10. I've honestly lost count. Voodoo Power, an MXR, T Rex... Whenever anyone has one I haven't had a go on I try it like bloody Cinderella 😂.

That's really good to know though, not tried yours. I'll take a look at it. Thanks!

  11. Hey,

I've given up trying to find a reasonable way to power my MB SS through a brick and accept it needs its own power supply. However the one it came with didn't have a UK plug and I'm sick of it wobbling about in its adapter.

Can anyone please recommend a specific power supply they are happy with for this - I know I need 12vdc minimum 550mA (!!!), but beyond that have too many memories of power supplies frying so if anyone has had joy with a specific one pls let me know!
