I'm a big fan of G&L. My first 'proper' bass was an L2000 fretless in blueburst with maple binding... tragically it was destroyed in a house fire (less tragically, I wasn't). 

I currently have an ASAT and an M-2000 fretless, both 2013 (the M-2000 bought new, the ASAT second-hand from Bass Direct). They're both fantastic instruments. Actually I gigged the M-2000 the other night for the first time in about 3 years. The sustain on that thing is just incredible and it's soooo darned easy to play.

Would really like an MJ-5; may well order one in the next few weeks although there's a Sadowsky I'm interested in so we'll see. 

Any interest in trades? Specifically a Ritter Roya.

Fusion F1 is very good. I only ended up getting one because I bought their keyboard case and was so impressed with it. Haven't been disappointed; very comfortable and extremely hard-wearing.

I would rather like a Ritter R8.
Although for gigging sometimes I'd like something that plays & sounds Ritter-ish but has a more traditional look. I have no idea what that would be though.

Dang, I've been waiting ages for a nice fretless 5 to come up. If this didn't have lines I'd be all over it like a rash. In fact I like it so much I might have to have a think about whether I can get over my line aversion...

Saw him playing at the Pizza Express in Soho about 15 years ago. What a great evening that was.

Have always loved this piece as an example of melodic bass-playing (by NHØP). Didn't realise there was a YouTube video of a performance (I guess there is for pretty much everything!)

It's true they are really not well-known. Great basses though. I had an L2000 fretless for a few years but it was sadly destroyed in a house fire. Wonderful instrument.

My ASAT bass is basically the same thing in a different shape (oh and with frets). Again, superb. When I bought that about a year ago, I went into the bass shop without an upper limit on what I was willing to spend. The G&L beat rivals costing 2 or 3 times the price (some of which was down to lack of available sounds, but often it was just inferior workmanship and playability).
I tried a Tribute also that day, and was absolutely astounded at how good that was for the money.

I have an ASAT Classic S guitar also. Now that thing is an absolute joy. I know two guitarists who currently are looking to source a G&L on the strength of playing that (one of them wasn't even plugged in).

I could do with a 5-string fretless.

But no idea what they're like to play or listen to. And they're both MILES away.

They look nice.
They seem to only produce a single sound though. And I question the build quality.

Quite... I have absolutely no idea what either term means.

I've done 90 mins each way; to play with specific guys, and probably only about 6 times in a year. I live in the sticks though so 45 mins would be normal anyway.

I just need to know whatever I'm told I'll be playing at the weekend. If I've heard the song before I'll know it already (just how my brain works) but it surprises me how often stuff comes up that I've never heard which is not only great but apparently widely known. This is why I love depping.

Of my 3 basses I [i]think[/i] the missus is only aware of 1. I get stuff delivered to me at work...

I play with my thumb and three fingers, so it's only my "pinkie" that doesn't really get a look in.
The only tip I can really offer is - practice! As with any instrumental technique, lots and lots of repetition of difficult stuff (preferably more difficult than you'll ever need) will eventually get you there.

Maybe it's just been a long week (already) but I must confess I almost had tears in my eyes watching the Stevie Wonder cover... beautiful.

When you say "such a small bass", do you mean the body size, or neck length, or string spacing, or...?

I have one almost as compact as the Hercules - fits well in the pocket of my gig bag. It's a 'mini' Fender Acoustic stand. Have had it for about 10 years and still doing the job well.

I have an M2000 fretless and it's absolutely great, so I would think so.
That said, in some respects I did prefer my old L2000 fretless...

Have never felt the need, although the particular Levy strap that I use on all my guitars is very thick, and difficult enough to get on, let alone off. On basses they never get removed anyway, so it doesn't bother me at all.
Funniest thing I saw recently was a bassist playing a (presumably quite expensive) Lakland to which he had affixed the strap using GAFFER TAPE. It somewhat spoiled the look of the instrument!

I just love this (and normally I don't like "natural finish" basses OR single-cutaways at all). One of the most appealing instruments I've ever seen on here.
Unfortunately as it's so eye-catching it would be impossible to sneak it into my collection un-noticed!
