  1. Mine is a Profile Silhouette P-Bass copy, I still have it.

They were an export brand, made in Japan and often sold in Australia.
This belonged to my ex-girlfriend who gifted it to me.

    It is really excellent.

I put in a Seymour Duncan quarter pounder about 10 years ago.
A machine head broke so I replaced it, everything else is original.
I have it strung with flats at the moment.

Anyone use one of these amazing boxes for their bass rig? The search brought back a lot of L6 stuff, but didn't see any Fractal love.

I have an Axe FX III and a Kemper.

I tend to use the Kemper for bass as it has a built in 600w power amp.
The Axe FX is excellent though.

More to the point, Fractal and Kemper?

Yup, I do a fair bit of session work on bass and guitar and it is good to have options.

Have the Helix floorboard and Fractal FX8 also.

SSL, Neve, API, VIPRE dear lord 😍😜

    No Neve actually.
The Neve looking thing is a Phoenix DRS-1R.
It is sort of Neve like, but I actually prefer them to 1073's, bigger bottom end- great for bass and kick drum.

The ViPre is amazing, I've had that here since 2004.

  5. Bespoke 000-style acoustic guitar.
    Stika spruce soundboard.
    Rosewood back & sides.
    Mahogany neck.
    Maple binding.

Oh, and I built it. :)

  6. Hi folks,

I joined the forum ages ago when I was looking for some bass gear and never introduced myself.
I think I know a few of you from TheFretboard forum anyway.
I'm an Australian living in Oxfordshire.

I play bass, guitar, drums & mandola and I build acoustic guitars.
I'm mostly a rock and fusion type of player.
I've also done a fair bit of work as a producer/engineer- mostly commercial pop/rock stuff, some ads, some voice overs.

Current bass gear is: Musicman Stingray 2EQ, Profile P Bass, Mark Bass CMD102, Fractal FX8, Fractal Axe FX, Matrix power amp.

    Cheers,

    James

  7. Hi folks,

Long time lurker looking for a bit of help.
I'm a guitarist who is working on getting some bass chops and gigs- I have one gig in a couple of weeks time which could turn into a couple more. Function band kinda stuff, some rock, pop and a bit of funk mostly.

I'm looking for a suggestion about what to do regarding a gig worthy amp that I can also practice with at home.
I currently use my Axe FX 2 (using the SV model) into some studio monitors but I'd like something that is bass specific- and gig worthy.

I'd considered just buying a bass cab (Vanderkley 4x10 or 2x12 are currently winning) to pair with a Matrix power amp (I already own this) and use the Axe FX for gigs, but for home practice the Matrix amp has a fan that runs all the time that is distracting- it also means I am moving the Axe FX around, rather than leaving it in my studio rack.

So I'm now looking at combo's- the Mark Bass CMD102P seems to be a common choice.
Can you suggest something else that I should check out around the same sort of money- under a grand.

I'd rather not have to pair the combo with another cab to get over a drummer- if I need to do that then I'll probably go for a cab, use the Matrix power amp now and look at replacing it down the line with a dedicated bass amp head.

I guess my questions are- will the Mark Bass combo get over a decently loud drummer (pop/rock, not metal)?
Would I be better off with a 4x10 or 2x12 cab, and looking at getting a dedicated bass head when funds allow?

    Cheers.
