Let's get the first question out the way - yes I am approaching 50, but yes I still want to make great music!

I'm looking for a band to join (or start with the right people) to play something between rock and prog metal. Think the bastard child of IQ, Pulse Ultra, Porcupine tree (all eras), Steven Wilson, King Crimson, Muse and Jethro Tull. Add some early Sigur Ros, MIke Oldfield, Philip Glass and Kate Bush and you are getting close.

In case it matters, I play 5 string basses, and can (as most bass players can) play guitar as well. Have sung lead and backing vocals over the years. Purely instrumental (eg Mogwai) is also really good.

That's exactly what I did with mine - frets removed, wood filler applied to where the frets were, a good sand, and then epoxy over the top.

All I'd say is that the epoxy, while adding durability, changes the sound markedly!
