Surely it’s all down to your principal/sole source of income.
We do tend to define ourselves through our jobs, and others do too. This shouldn't be the case, but it is. I've decided that when I'm retired (not too many years) I'm finally going to call myself a musician, whatever anybody else says!
The other point is that if you're self taught and never had access to formal lessons when you started, can't read musical notation etc, in a way you always tend to feel a bit inferior, not a proper musician. However, these days, you have easy access to so much stuff on line (e.g. Scotts Bass Lessons etc) that give you the opportunity to really get into the theory, learn to read if you want to etc. All this builds your confidence alongside all the gigs you do,........ so yes, one day soon I'm going to be a moosician.😊..

I think I am falling in love with this bass.
Hi
I owned one for a while, gigged regularly. Sold it (reluctantly) to make way for a Fender Strat
Very nice bass though, distinctive sound, punchy, powerful. I can't claim to have played early 60's original basses I'm afraid, but this comes pretty close I reckon. Downsides were :
- completely unshielded electronics, so it buzzed like a swarm of angry bees!....of course, I could have got that sorted for not much money
- the tone controls are mighty strange. They don't work in any kind of graduated, linear way, or nearly as 'well' as on my American standard. Probably supposed to be like that to mirror those early days, but I found it very tricky to quickly get, say, a much warmer sound if you wanted that
But, overall, excellent and very cool bass for the money....

Hi Mart, good to hear that you're coming - you won't be disappointed!! Kick-off is 10am but we'll be in the hall from 8-ish so no problem if you arrive early. Just pay your tenner on the door and claim some table-top space if you're bringing stuff. Official finish time is 4pm but, again, that's completely flexible as we have the hall all day.
Thanks for that, look forward to it. If I feel brave enough I'll bring along my Esh fretless...

New to Basschat and would be my first bash, but as I'm based very nearby there's absolutely no excuse... if it's still possible to come. Do we have a rough idea of timings, and how to we pay (sorry if I've missed those details)..
