  1. Yamaha BB734A in excellent condition (like new), includes the original case (also in like new condition) and case candy (allen keys, control panel overlay, 9v battery etc)
Very versatile active passive option along with PJ pickup configuration. Yamaha have put some serious engineering into this bass with the 6 bolt miter neck joint (it seriously sustains!).
This bass has only been used a handful of times, mainly in my practice room at home.
Stored in a clean, dry and pet free space.
Only selling to fund another music project.
Cash only on collection, no postage, shipping or trades. However, I am flexible to meeting up halfway somewhere reasonable if that would help (just ask!).

    What Yamaha say:

Combining the crisp, penetrating tone, and serious flexibility of active pickups with the punch and sustain of a 6-bolt miter neck joint, the 700 models can be relied on to deliver an extraordinarily versatile sound that you can adapt to any genre or environment

The BB for the working pro, the BB700 series features a versatile active/passive pickup configuration with a three-band EQ, six-bolt miter neck joint, Alder/Maple/Alder construction, and a diagonally strung convertible bridge.

  2. Which BB pickups have the most top end/treble? Is it the blade ones or a different setup?

734A most definitely sounds vintage (ala Fender) voiced to me, which is not a bad thing to me as i love the classic Fender P 1962 tone.

If i wanted another BB with more top end what would I go for?

(Just interested in BB models at the mo...i appreciate that I can change pickups as its a standard route)

I just bought BTS7’s Yamaha Peter Hook bass, and I couldn’t be happier.   Nice guy to deal with, the bass is immaculate, and a nice smooth sale. What more could you ask for?

    Thanks Chris 👍

Thanks tredders, pleasure doing business with you, enjoy the bass!

Yeah it seems like such a waste. I’m still confused as to why the 734a is only available with a painted neck too, sure some people like that but I’ve always hated it especially when it has such a nice neck to show off.

I’m possibly going to trade for a 734a but I’ll be sanding the paint off the neck pretty swiftly!

I also hate the idea of painted necks, but find the paint on my 734a and BBPH really nice and matte, like a good satin neck. I also have a bass with a roasted maple neck and the feel isn't a million miles apart.

  5. I've heard different things about the pick ups on these, some say they're wound humbucking under the cover, some say single coil.

    Any ideas what they are?

Usually the hum gives it away, plus more top end presence that a tradition P pickup

Never gave it much thought about the sliders on my ABM600

Taking the roqsolid cover off always seems to turn the rotary knobs a bit though !

Review/demo of this deeeply tempting bass.

If my knackered left shoulder wasn't demanding only ultralight basses, I'd be trying to buy this right this second. Ahhhhh.

Good point, if anyone wants the weight, let me know and i'll try and get the scales out

  7. Yamaha BBPH Peter Hook bass
This is a limited edition bass which is now discontinued by Yamaha. From what I've read online there were only about 352 basses made (I'm not sure if this is worldwide or UK only - but the majority were just for the UK market)
Great condition, includes original gig bag, case candy and overlay for control panel which comes with the new bass.

I brought this new during the Covid lockdown.
Looking closely this has 1 very small dent next to the controls, which is hard to see unless you are looking very close to the body. You can see this in one of the photos next to a 1p penny for size. But it is not noticeable at first sight. It's only a couple of mm and has not gone through the body finish.
Plastic is still on the control panel plate.
Strings have been recently changed, but i'll throw the original strings in as well.
You are very welcome to come and try the bass out. I also have a Clone theory pedal (not for sale) all set up if you're after that Hooky tone!
I'm also open to a Zoom/Whatsapp/Teams video call if that would be helpful to you.
Only selling as I now have more basses than i'll use and the Joy Division / New order project I got this for is at a stand still, so this isn't getting used.

Afraid i'm only looking at cash on collection as there are far too many scams around on paypal and bank transfers, plus i don't trust couriers (most of whom don't fully insure instruments).

I may be able to travel to a mutual location and my band (Sounds of Seattle) travels around England and Welsh borders a fair amount so that's another possibility.
