I had the 1x12 250w combo and it seemed a bit stretched in a fair sized pub gig so I changed to 2, 1x12 cabs and a bigger amp which gives a very versatile set up. The cabs sound good and I am told they are loud enough. They are also light at under 30lbs but only have one handle (just bought 2 EA ELX 112's for PA with one handle each) which puts them out of balance to carry, penny pinching really. I certainly have no regrets having bought them but you may find one on its own a bit pushed in anywhere other than a small pub venue.

I would look very closely at the Hartke Hydrive 112 cabs. They tick all your boxes, are an easy one hand lift (30lbs I think) and don't cost a mint.

I know nowt much about PA. Our guitarist/singer does (?) and he gets wound up before a gig. Anyway, I thought I would put a bit of bass through the desk (di from my amp) and so give the desk some control over my volume. So far so good; I got a bit in the monitors as well and that was when he threw a wobbler and said about ten times that you NEVER put bass through the monitors.....is he right?
He said I should be able to hear my own rig; fair enough but if I can hear myself clearly he complains he can hear nowt but bass. Also he says bass will pop the monitors but the keyboard goes through them!
So, can you put bass through your monitors ?
The monitors are Carlsbro Alpha 12s I think.

Thank you, Bremen for that gem of widom. Carolina Moon, I know it, used to sing along with my Dad, though in later years I suspect rather than in the year I was actually born. I will now crank up Youtube and have a playalong to celebrate.

I think I would need a double bass, don't think they had invented the bass guitar in 1958!

Having the title 'Fender Guitar....' I suppose that it may encompass basses but if not and if they can be considered seperately then Fender basses have to be contenders.
That bloke Hendrix did create an impression.

Any given gig includes a mix of straight folk style through to almost metal arrangements of traditional songs. Funny but we never get to play folk clubs......or anywhere much else come to that! Our band has a website (www.vortigern.org) it is not expensive and less 'cloned' than FB. You have more control over the whole layout and maybe it gives a better feel for the band. I always speak to the appropriate person and then refer them to the website so they can see what we are about; maybe not such a good plan come to think of it!Good luck.

Oh dear, oh deary me! Saturday we did our first gig in months. We were given it at short notice so only had one short rehearsal with no real clangers. Then came Saturday....I would admit how many but I don't have enough fingers to count up. I made enough bloopers for everybody, no show stoppers but all the same. All I can say is it is just as well I own the band van.

Well, there's only three hours to flap about it so that's good. Soon as you get up there the nerves will go. Hang loose and enjoy it, don't worry about any wee slips, they will come and they will go.
Maybe set your sound a wee bit thick and muddy and play way down low.....I have to do it if I try to sing and play at the same time; covers a multitude of sins!

'Relegated' is a central element in the question. Clearly some play guitar and bass (as well as a whole variety of other instruments) and some elect to play just bass. I was just interested because I had come accross the situation a couple of times where a band had figuratively 'taken' the guitar off someone and said 'here,play this'.I have to say that for me it is no demotion; I wouldn't know what to do with a guitar and I'm much too addicted to thunder.

A friend of mine is a bass player in a remarkably good blues/rock band. He started out as a guitarist but as the guitarist in this band was better than most (including him) he was invited to play bass, which he has done now for years. I have heard the same story before; a not quite up to scratch guitarist being bunged at the back with four strings.
Did anyone on here start out that way or did everyone pick up the bass as number one option?

Please good bass playing people,do not be offended, whether you took up bass entirely of your own volition or were 'encouraged' it is no demotion or relegation and I never meant to infer that. For myself I am more than happy to be bunged at the back with four (five as it happens) strings and wouldn't know what to do with a guitar.

Long story.....dismissed the last drummer as he was guilty of pretty much all of the above and more. Got a new drummer, hurrah, he had to cancel a gig but couldn't give a reason. Hmmm, we never do that. It did however mean that our lead fiddle player could go to a party to which he had been invited but previously couldn't as it clashed with the gig. When the fiddlist went to the party he was a little taken aback to find our drummer setting up with another band; he wasn't as taken aback as the drummer was to see him!
This whole thing seems endemic to bands. Perhaps,if possible, it is better to play with friends rather than just 'bandmates'.Friends have a little respect for one another.

A good move I think to take up bass but please don't give up on the cello which is a truly superb instrument! Had you ever considered a NS cello? Pluck it, bow it, stand with it, sit with it......wish I could manage one.
