  1. I keen to restring an Ibanez EHB ms bass E to C. I'm finding it very hard to find an appropriate blank nut so wondered if anyone has succeeded with that. Also, has anyone just put E to C strings on with the original nut?

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

  2. That covers the main differences. The string spacings are the same, as is the basic body shape (the 1005 has a little more access to the top strings). It is a terrific bass (presuming you want to play 5 string fretless) and is more versatile than people think. I once had someone at a Denmark Street shop tell me you can't play fretless in a soul band. I did, for over ten years! The GWB has been used for all sorts of projects since I had it.

I do have a few more pictures of the bass, this time without me in them but featuring the hard case. I'm having trouble uploading them at moment but will happily email them if anyone is interested.

  3. I'm selling my GWB1 because I've been lucky ebnough to get a GWB1005 and so the GWB1 is sitting around feeling unloved.

It's the original Gary Willis signature model with an ebony fingerboard (with very minial wear from playing). The body is in excellent condition and the pickups and other electronics are faultless. These are hard to find instruments and have what Mr Willis described as a transparent sound. I've used mine to play soul, blues, rock, reggae, jazz and fusion. It even got used in a Shadows tribute show (don't ask).

I would prefer to sell this to someone who can pick it up in person as I've had some bad experiences with the post. I live near Oxford but, within reason, would be happy to meet a buyer half way (NB really not if you live in China).

The bass comes with its original hard case. If you want more detailed pictures I can sort those out via email.

    I'm looking for £900.

    All relevant questions are welcome.

  4. Damn! I can't leave. But someone said I could check out any time I want. :-)

BTW, I'm one of those bass players who began on bass, rather than start on guitar and transfer over. I still can't play guitar.

  5. I'm new to BassChat. I mostly play fretless bass these days and have an Ibanez GWB1005 and GWB35 (for the rougher gigs) to do so. I also have a 1950s reissue P-Bass and an upright electric, all of which get used at some point. I've been a bassist for thirty years and should be a lot better than I am. Bass playing is, however, the only thing in my life I have stuck to for so long and it continues to provide me with fun, frustration and challenges pretty much every day. Nice to virtually meet you!
