  1. My mate has one, but ripped the stock pup out (was quite weedy) and routed the body a little bit for a set of DiMarzio WillPowers - Neck and Middle (P). Sounds incredible now! His is quite heavy too, around 11lbs or so, quite a nice looking maple neck also.

  2. Not a problem buddy, happy to help. I've been spending a fair bit of time on that website recently.

And if they haven't got exactly what you're looking for, you could give this a try :) Create your own canvas prints from your favourite photos, I'm having a couple done of my friends Harley Davidson as a birthday surprise for her

  3. Things like this?

Seem to be pretty cool. I bought a couple of Freddie Mercury prints from a limited run of 850 worldwide a few years ago. One is hung up, the other is in hiding/storage as an investment (we'll see if that one works!)

When you hit distortion is it at the very end of the pot of does it fade in as you approach the end? If it is only at the very end then in may be a faulty pot. I have had this, the pot creates an open circuit right at the end and the thing goes haywire.

Hi, yes it fades in as it approaches the end of the pots turn, which (to me, anyway) sort of confirms the pre amp running out of headroom as suggested before

With the bass control running into distortion, I wouldn't be surprised if it was just running out of headroom. That's one of the reasons why some makers opt for 18V preamps.

Regarding the string balance - what is the tuning of your strings? And is the set you are using intended for that tuning?

I thought that may be the case (running out of headroom) Although it doesn't really bother me that much, I tend to leave the eq flat on the bass and use the amp instead, maybe dialing in slight changes during performance, it was still niggling in my mind as to what it could be.

The current strings are Roto swing 66s, 130-30 (I think anyways, haven't changed them since I got it - round wound, red silks) and tuned to Eb (half step down from standard). Had them on a few basses I used to own before I got this one, so I know roughly how they'd sound. Will get a new set on tomorrow and see if that changes anything

  6. First post in this section, pretty sure this is the place for it.
Basically, I'm having an issue with the preamp in my Fanndec 6 string, but I'm at a serious loss as to what it could be! Its a 9v 3 band EQ (bass, mid, treble) with a master volume and pickup blend. It works fine, except the bass control, which seems to add a layer of distortion at its furthest + level. As its one sealed unit (unknown make) I can't really do much with it, other than change it for a new preamp and hope that sorts it. Before I do take that plunge though, would there be any suggestions as to what has caused this to occur? I'm quite handy with a soldering iron, so can check wiring etc quite easily, I just don't know where to start?!

Also, I'm experiencing some volume level differences across the strings, notably on the G and C# being significantly louder than the lower strings. I've tried changing the pickup height and saddles to try and alleviate this, but no success so far. Any thoughts on this also?
Can try and upload some pics of the preamp cavity if anyone thinks this would help diagnosis?

    Cheers,
    Mark

  7. Well, I've had it for a week or so on trial now. Verdict - LOVE the head, not as taken by the cab as I wanted to be. Have tried it (the head) through a few other cabs I have here, and quite surprised at how good it sounds through an old Hartke transporter 4x10. Only thing is, if I do buy it, then its as a package (head+cab). Decisions!!

  8. I'd try swapping out cables to begin with, particularly the cable connecting the head to the cab. Other than that, I wouldn't know where to start. Someone should be along shortly to give more advice than I :)

  9. Cheers for the replies :) Have spoken to the guy who offered it to me, and agreed a weeks trial before I make a decision to buy or not. Will be collecting it on Monday.

I was slightly put off by the cab not being ported, but if does indeed reduce the level of 'boominess' then I'll be quite happy tbh.

  10. Hi... I have an opportunity to buy one of these combos/head/cabs (whatever you want to class it as?!)
Unfortunately, I won't be able to try it before I buy, so I thought I would ask the esteemed members of BC for their views/opinions on it.

Bit of background - I've just joined a band made up of members of previous bands I've been involved with. Staying as a 3 piece for now (Drums, Guitar and Bass. Myself and the guitard will be sharing vocal duties)
We will be playing mainly original songs, albeit with a couple of covers thrown in as we start out. Generally classified as hard rock/80s heavy metal style sound.

I currently play a Fanndec 6 string, so my main concern would be - can the 210HE cab handle a Low B flat? As in, half step down from standard tuning?
I will be looking out for 1x15 at some point to add to the rig - if I do buy it.

Hope someone can help me out on information, I've never been too trusting of online reviews, and would ideally like to hear from someone who's owned the cab and used it in a similar gigging situation :)
    Cheers,
    Mark
