1. It would be a lot easier to understand this already complicated issue if I were to know what MIM MIA MIJ IME CIJ and Squier VM and CV all stood for. I can guess a few but can anyone enlighten me? Many thanks.

2. So in short, they are Celestion speakers, but built/designed to a higher spec for TE, and the cabs are better designed/constructed than generic cabs.
Thanks to those that answered the question. (Dandelion/longtimefred)

3. No. And that is exactly my point! Anyone can make a cabinet and put celestions in it. I bought a 4x12 cab many years ago with 4 x 12" celestions in it from a music shop that had their own cabinets made to the same spec as a well known company. The cabs were less than half the price. Same spec cab. Same spec speakers. People were still willing to pay over double for the cabs with brand name on them. A TE cab with celestions is not the same as a cab with celestions in it just because it has a TE badge!! If the speakers are a custom spec, fine. Enlighten me. If the speakers are the same, tell me how the quality of the cab differs from any other top name 4x12 cab construction. Many thanks.

4. Please excuse my ignorance and feel free to educate me, but, I see a lot of money changing hands for second hand TE cabs but was always led to believe they were only celestion speakers in them! Is this the usual case of paying for the badge on the front?

5. I had mine in the late 70's after owning a copy Precision and a copy Rick' and before I owned a Fender Precision. At no time at all, did the weight issue ever arise. Its only since I joined this forum that I have heard of people complaining about the weight. Perhaps it's the usual story.... when anything is so near perfect, people will always try and find something to be picky about?
When I gigged mine, at a frantic pace in a Punk band, I was 18/19 years old. I had broad shoulders by then and had grown a pair. :-)

There are stacks of fuzz boxes out there that will do the job, especially as you don't sound like you'll need one that will leave the bass intact.

An EHX Big Muff is easily picked up cheaply and will do the job, though I wouldn't say that fuzz is necessarilly what you want if you're looking to nail JJ's sound.

What do you mean by leaving the bass intact? The sound? I dont want it sound like JJ. Please read post again. Many thanks. Vicar

7. Right, I know this sounds mad but.................................

When I played in a Punk Band in the late 70's my stage set-up was to play through an H/H 100 watt Guitar head
using two H/H PA 15" speaker cabs with Bass reflex ports. This, with my Peavey T-40, gave me the J.J. Burnel sound I wanted.

As the main songwriter for the band, when I was writing stuff, I used the "sustain" switch on the H/H to distort my Bass (much like a "Fuzz Box" pedal which was very popular at the time) in order to 'knock-on' and write stuff with a near-as guitar sound as possible.

What would be the equivalent to achieve that now?

I don't have the "sustain" switch on my Ashdown 130 watt Bass combo (that I used to have on the H/H amp) so I suppose I would be looking at something like the old "Fuzz Box" pedal to give me that effect.

Any suggestions guys?

Many thanks

8. Does anybody use the Thomman pro series or have any other recommendations?. I want good quality connectors and cable, not cheap rubbish, but not the very best top quality pro stuff.

Thanks

9. For those of you that are involved in your band's PA system, what make mic and speaker cables do you recommend? The Thomman pro series seem to be good quality at a reasonable price. Anyone have any experience with these cables?

I'm a big fan of the Behringer XM8500 -similar to an SM58, but under £20. we use them for backing vocals. Cheap doesn't mean shoddy with these - they seem to have a higher output than SM58s and a bit more clarity.

Does anyone know why the Behringer XM8500 are not sold in the 3-pack as they are in Europe and the USA?

Ok, that PA head will handle 4 ohms on each channel. Ohms work a bit different to watts, etc... lower is higher, if that makes sense...so your 8 ohm cabs are fine, one in each channel. If you had another 2 x 8 ohm cabinets, you could run two 8 ohm cabinets, in parallel, per output, giving you the minimum - 4 ohm load.

So 2 x 8ohm cabinets in parallel = 4 ohms.

Does that make sense?

So does that mean that I will get 2x200 watts with the 8 Ohm speakers as a pair (one in each output channel) and still get 2x200 watts if i ran four speakers in parallel? ie two speakers linked direct to another two
