  1. I was in a band practice the other week when it suddenly dawned on me that I've only ever bought two jack leads.

I got them about 9 years ago and they've both been absolutley flawless. They've seen some really pretty heavy usage as well as I studied music for 5 years so was practicing a lot for that on top of band work and recording. They're both made by Planet Waves.

Every one else I know has had fairly regular problems with their leads and couldn't believe it when I mentioned how long mine had lasted. So, has anyone on here had such a long life from a lead before or have I just been incredibly lucky?

  2. Replaced the valves in my terror yesterday so thought I'd share my thoughts. Got two Tung Sol 12AX7's from Watford Valves.

The main reason I decided to swap them was I found the low end to be a little muddy and undefined, particularly right down at the lowest frets. I have to say that right away I noticed a difference. It's not a major tone change, it's still the same great Orange sound, but everything sounds a little 'tighter', if that makes sense. There's definitely an added brightness, and the mids sound perhaps a little more aggresive, if that's possible!

I went for the Tung Sol valves in particular as I seen someone on Talkbass had mentioned that they work particularly well with an aggressive fuzz/OD in the terror. This is most definitely true! Higher gain settings on my ODB-3 sound even better now, with the clearer low end and brighter sound making the notes jump right through instead of kind of lurking around underneath the effect. Another plus it that the amp seems more responsive to the eq on the Boss pedal as well. The smallest tweak of the treble knob gives noticeable and usable change in tone, which is brilliant. (I've also just received an MXR M108 eq pedal so this bodes well!)

I haven't had the chance to properly put it through its paces yet, this was just what I found after a couple of hours of jamming in my house with my guitarist (got a band practice tomorrow though so will have the chance to see how it reacts to higher volume/gain settings), but so far it seems like a very good move. For less than £30 inc delivery I'd recommend it.

If I'd need a second complete rig, I'd pretty much print this picture, take it to the guitar shop and wave it in the air, screaming. :D

Haha now that's a scene I'd love to see!

    May affectionately nicknamed "ghetto rig"

HH IC100-L (though would rather it was just a IC100)
homemade cab with a 15" 1400w car sub

Bassy as hell, but I like it.

Bet that would be cool for reggae-type stuff. :)

  5. Hi folks

Been reading the site on and off for a while now (lots of great advice found, cheers!) and finally decided to sign up myself.

Been playing bass for about 5 years now, played guitar for about 5 years before that until I seen the light and moved down the octaves! Playing in a prog/metal band named Croatoa just now.

Here's the gear I'm using at the moment:

    - 2008 Fender MIM Deluxe Jazz

    - Orange Terror Bass

    - Barefaced Super Twelve T

    - Boss ODB3

Looking to add some more effects soon, notably an MXR M108, some kind of compressor and quite possibly an Earthbound Audio Supercollider, although not decided on that one yet!

    Cheers!
