I’m going to have to be very disciplined and not get one of those 210 cabs, the whole point of this purchase being to reduce the amount of gear I cart about.

So, when's the new cab arriving?

  2. For sale is my Ashdown Tonepocket. Bought from PMT in 2020 for playing during lockdowns but didn't use it as much as I thought I would. Comes with the original box, charging cable and will throw in a short jack lead and headphone adapters too.

Collection/delivery preferred but happy to discuss postage.

Good to hear you are pleased with it. I found the notched volume hard to get on with, and thought it a strange design choice. It is not something I'd ever come across before on the numerous guitar & bass amps and hi fi equipment that Ive used over the years.

When I got mine, I thought it was broken at first as in my excitement to open and use it, I plugged my cable into the foot switch socket in error, and couldn't work out why it it didn't work!!!!

For me, it's not the notched volume per se (the Ashdown ABM has them) it's the uneven jump in volume in the first few notches.

And I did exactly the same thing with the footswitch input :)

  4. Finally got to use my LBT in anger tonight and was very impressed.

It's loud, very loud. The EQ is very usable and the compressor adds so much character. I played it with a precision and through a Barefaced Super Twin and barely had the volume at 9 o'clock, in a loud rock band in a village hall.

    The only gripes I have;

It's so powerful I had to put a tea towel under it to stop it falling off my cab. I may invest in a rubber Matt or some rack ears and a new shallow rack - although this seems like it's missing the point of an amp so small.

The notched volume control takes a bit of work, it goes from too quiet to very loud so I had to use the volume on my bass to assist with the levels. I will look into getting the pots changed under warranty like another chap did on here.

Overall, very happy. A great bit of kit.

  5. Currently

    Orange Little Bass Thing
    Orange Mk1 Terror 500 (backup)

    Barefaced Super Twin
    Orange OB1-300 combo (for sale!)
Ashdown LB30 (amazing for recording and practising, not quite enough for gigging)

Ashdown Mi12 cab (used with the LB30)
Trace Elliot 715 SMC (my first proper amp, UK made, will never sell it)

I go through phases with amps, dreading the next one but I think i'm settled now (famous last words!)

Agh, it really is one of the best cabs I’ve ever used and I’ve a horrible feeling that I’m going to look back on this with regret. I always thought I would never part company with this too but the bottom line is I just don’t use it anymore.   😩😩😩😩😩

If you don't need to sell it, don't! If you think you'll regret it you probably will.
I didn't think I'd regret it and it ate at me for years.

I don’t thinks there’s much left out there that I wish to try now. Until something new is launched 😂

Please don't stop buying amps. I think our tastes are quite similar and my wife/accountant is grateful you try before I buy... you're doing God's work mate!

Here comes the voice of reason.

For assorted reasons, swapped out a fair few pickups in my time, irrespective of the maker/cost etc, the end result is that all of them sound more or less the same.

All this nonsense about growl, vintage warmth/aggression can be dialled in from your amp/outboard gear.  Any nuances from pickup to pickup will be lost in a full-band context anyway.  Your listening audience don't give a toot about your pickup choice either!

Go with the cheapest or the ones that suit your visual aesthetic.  Even better, support small makers, like Josi Warman.

    To quote Peep Show:

"Do you have to live quite so relentlessly in the real world?"

    It's a fair point though...
