1. . Made in U.S.A 100 watt solid state combo with 15 inch speaker. Fitted with high quality castors. Pretty good condition some wear on speaker cover and scuffs on tolex covering but nothing bad. Good working order no dirty pots etc. I can't post pictures but no problem to come and take a look, have a play. £200.Combo is in Leeds.

  2. I love the "was I ripped off" comment of the O.P Are you being coy or do you really not realise what a bargain you have there. This bass was advertised in Bassist mag' for ages at £1600 obviously no one bought it which I find very strange, times really must be hard! What sort of price would Basschatters consider this bass would be worth? I would say at least another grand on top of what the O.P paid>

  3. Comes with power supply. Casing is marked a bit and the input socket for the power supply is a bit wobbly but it works fine doesn't cut out or crackle and all the pots work fine with no crackles. No box or instructions £25 plus £3.00 postage.

  4. I once bought a bass from Music Ground in Leeds in the late 80's. It was a new Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray but I couldn't get on with the action. When the bloke in the shop played it it didn't buzz because he kept playing very fast runs on it so I told him to play sustained notes slowly to hear the buzzing and his reply was that the electric bass wasn't designed to play long notes.

  5. Very interesting chaps. I knew I was probably wrong. So you think this is a shoddy repair job? Personally I wouldn't care about appearences as long as the neck was structurally sound but I can't understand why it would be left visible if it were possible to conceal the damage? Financial considerations apart, I suppose. Thanks for the replies. Any info' or opinions are useful.

  6. Would it influence your opinion of the bass if you knew it was owned by a top class musician and the repair was done by Martin Petersen of Sei basses and that the bass had been in the repaired condition for twelve years? My point being that a top musician wouldn't presumably entrust the repair of a very high end bass( that said 'top musician' had owned for years) to any old repairman?I' m no luthier but I can't see how you could hide repairs on the neck like this unless there was some kind of finish on the wood that would hide cracks but I'm probably wrong about that.

  7. Why has no one been interested in buying this? Any explanations from anyone who has had a look? I would have thought something this rare and high quality would have sold easily. Obviously it's been damaged but a look on the internet will tell you these kinds of repairs are very common and easy to rectify often producing results superior to the original.

Having owned both, I am astonished by that remark.... are you sure your Wals have been real ones? Also, mine is not and never has been a 'neck diver' and I am again intrigued at the experiences being discussed. Maybe mine is the forgery :D

I also don't find it excessively heavy - but then again, it has been around my neck for 23 years so I guess I am used to it now.
A Wal round your neck for 23 years? Maybe that explains your facial expression on your profile. ;) Mind you it's hard to tell but you look like a fairly well built bloke compared to me!

  9.
That is of course, unless you like Wals and then it's a very practical design for a gigging bass.. Having said that, I love the Jazz bass design and have two five string models which I gig with and they're great.
Yes but liking a bass isn't reason enough to damage my shoulder and neck. Each to his own but playing any bass to the detriment of your physique is just foolish. Playing comfort is every bit as important to me as tone, hardware, action etc. But then again if you're not a ten stone weakling like me it shouldn't be a problem.
As for the issue of prices I think it's a mystery why some basses or any objects for that matter become more desirable and expensive than others. I recently bought a 1980 Aria S.B 1000 for £400 and it is every bit the equal of a Wal in quality and without doubt the best quality instrument I have owned yet they just don't command the kind of prices of many other makes. The Aria is even heavier than the Wal by the way so that's gone too :)
