What era McCartney?
You could be talking anything from Hofner to Rickenbacker to Jazz bass.
If you're just looking at Fenders I've never seen him use a Precision so a Jazz would be the way to go.

I'm talking Rickenbacker era -
Ok, I know it's a cliché already...
But let's go: I'd like a thumpy warm vintage tone. Less Jamerson, more McCartney....
And between fender J's and P's, what would you recommend? -
Anybody have any extra information on Hofner CT President and Kay Pro Bass??
Like tone and stuff.
Youtube vids don't really help -
actually, i love short scale, AND I don't want a back-breaking bass. I'm 15, and I'm not very tall.
-
But is a mustang REALLY small and light-weight?
-
Danelectro Longhorn, Fender Mustang, Gibson SG Standard.
Which one can give me a good ol' warm vintage tone?
Which one would you choose, and WHY?
Just so you know, I can't go out and try them at a local
store.
I live outside the US, and a friend is going there and I'll give him the money. -
And what about the Lo-riders?
-
Can I get a p-bass with flatwounds sound, or something near?
-
What do DR Black Beauties sound like? Can they peoduce a warm, fat vintage tone?
Any other coated strings to recommend? -
Sorry, I wasn't being specific... I was talking about a bass guitar.
-
Lightweight, fast-playing, fat-vintage-round tone?
-
All right, about retro sounds, like Paul Mccartney, Carol Kaye and Jamerson, which bass is better?
-

The SG's are surprisingly light, far lighter than Epiphone EB0's. But as said above, there are some massive differences between your two options, so just have a play of a few, see what feels right.

What are these massive differences? -
Hey, I was thinking about buying a Fender 50's P Bass, but it's a bit heavy, and
I started searching about lightweight (and good-looking) bass guitars.
Then I found the Gibson SG standard, and I fell in love with it.
What do I do? So, the Fender or the Gibson?
Oh, and don't recommend original Gibson EB 3s and EB 0s, they're just
too expensive. -

Clauster has a good point. I prefer the Corvette's shape to any of the Fenders, but all have good (but different) sounds.
I personally wouldn't go for any, as I think there are many better basses for around the £1k mark, But it's all down to personal taste.
Like ALG says, let your ears decide.

But what other basses on that mark would you recommend? -
Anybody know the red bass on the video?

Hey, thank you all for the opinions.
I don't really like the relic too, but I was sort of
interested in the fiesta red road worn version.
Oh well.
Does anybody recommend other finishes on P and J?? -
Hey, bass brothers.
I'm gonna buy a new bass, and I came to my ultimate
decision (kind of).
It's Warwick Corvette Standard vs Road Worn P vs Road Worn J.
I'm new to the forum, so I would just like to know your opinion, and
what other bass guitars you would recommend.
P or J?
