Im just going to visit your link and take a peek, also its good to see it wasnt my paranoia about the break angle on the headstock, can you give me a little more info as to the floyd rose device youve put on the nut, many thanks for the help. regards, nigel.

Hi Froover, tell me more about those strings, as apart from 1 breaking I still use the origional strings on mine, also open string playing seems a bit duff as the rake angle thru the nut on mine is flat,so the string doesnt pull back to create a tight open/nut tone, does this make sense. regards, nig.

ps. and looking at the rainbow origional the strings seem to pass thru a retainer.
hi Nig, nice too see a familiar face around here!

the nut on the original design has the strings passing through circular holes

they start *very* small and go up in size

it was going to be a feature on the production ones but somehow it got lost

if your careful with the way you string them you can have the string coming from the very bottom of the machinehead and that gives it more of a downward angle

or you can do what i do now with mine - put one of the flyod rose style string trees on the headstock

when i finally get around to my custom, it will have quite an angled back headstock to take care of the the problem

they do sound much better with as much of an angle over the nut as possible

what you need for the string material is "solid silicone cord" thats about 60 shore hardness rating

you can get it from industrial plastics makers quite cheaply

    i get it from these guys - <a href="http://www.polymax.co.uk/acatalog/Polymax_Silcone_Cord.html" target="_blank">http://www.polymax.co.uk/acatalog/Polymax_Silcone_Cord.html</a>

ive tried from several of the uk suppliers in different colours and shore ratings, but have settled on the red stuff from them as my personal favourite

its got more of a whine and bite to it and it sounds nice and aggressive

it sounds daffy but the colours really do sound different

for about £30 you can get all the string material you will ever need in a lifetime

the red stuff lasts and lasts too

ive had it on for over a year now and as you know i play pretty hard

    not one single string breakage

rumour has it that fender bought a huuuge amount of duff string material and wont get any new till its all used up

but i think its just that the clear stuff isnt as strong and lasting as the coloured

    cheers

  3. the friction pegs arent the greatest

especially the ones on my rainbow ash

the capstan has no hole or way of attatching the strings at all

so stringing it is an excercise in frustration!

the more normal tuners on the dearmond and fender ones are a vast improvement

    cheers
