I tried the GHS Brite flats in long scale, wasn't really that impressed tbh.

Can you tell me why not ? -

D'Addario tapewounds have low tension and a sound which is flatwound-ish but at the brighter end of that. Perhaps those would do the job?

But those have a nylon coating, don't they ? -
I have recently bought a short scale Squier Musicmaster with a through-body string configuration.
I would like to put Thomastik flatwounds on it, because I have been using these for years on my Precision bass and I like the smooth feel, low tension and bright tone. Unfortunately, these Thomastik Jazz Flats are rather expensive, so I was wondering whether there are cheaper alternatives available with similar characteristics ?
I have been looking around and so far I have found these possible alternatives that will fit a short scale bass, although without being able to test them.

GHS "Brite flats"
Has anyone of you ever tried one of these strings ? Or could you recommend me any other sets to try ? -

That's stunning, great idea, I did a similar set up on a Yamaha BB300, it was a struggle to get the output if the pickups matched.

Nice ! Do you have any pictures ? What problems did you have with the mismatched output and how did you solve them ?

(photoshop?)

Nope, Gimp. Does anything Photoshop can, but much cheaper -
Haha, vanuit België ook Nederlandstalige groeten
I have a son of the same age, but so far he shows little interest in learning to play bass. (altough he is an excellent drummer !) -
I have always been fond of the sound of the original single coil Precision from the 50s and the Fender Telecaster basses from 60s and 70s, so I thought it would be cool to have a bass with both a scpb-pickup and a wide range humbucker. A few months ago, I was bored and drew this little mockup :
Some months later, I stumbled upon a cheap maple lefty Precision neck and decided to start looking for the other needed parts and actually build this beauty. Because I thought it would be a shame to waste valuable parts fort my first build, I try to keep it as cheap as possible
This is what I have so far :
I got almost all parts from the extremely nice people at the Dutch bass players forum. I expect the last batch of parts to arrive in my mailbox any day now and then I can start the woodworking : filling up the bridge pickup cavity, routing of a cavity for the humbucker and converting the headstock into Tele style.
After that, it will be a challenge to get the electronics working, but when I succeed I can start thinking about the finishing of the bass : find a nice colour for the body, refinish the neck with a tinted glossy lacquer, make a custom pickguard, etc.
I will keep you people posted of my progress ! -
Hi everyone,
someone has offered to sell me a second hand Fame MMX 500 MN bass.
http://www.musicstor...-BAS0003425-000
Fame basses are sold exclusively by Musicstore in Germany and are apparently handmade in Poland in the same workshop as the Mayones basses. So quality should be OK ?
Has anyone ever played or owned such a bass ?

En nog een bekende naam ... welkom !

Hehe, een bekende naam

Hi everyone, my name is Jeroen, I'm 36 years old and live in Antwerp, Belgium.
I usually hang around at the Dutch bass players forum, but found out that Google searches on bass-related topics frequentely directed me to this site, so I decided to register
When I was a teenager, my sister's boyfriend lended me his bass guitar, but I never managed to learn to play it. Twenty years later, I decided to give it another try. So I bought a second-hand bass guitar (a 4 string Cort Action) and started taking lessons at a local music school.
I have been playing now for more than two years and am currently using a Squier Vintage Modified Precision.
I play bass in a concert band at the music school and in another local concert band (composed mainly of yound and/or beginning musicians) together with my 10 year old son, who plays drums and percussion.
I wish you all a very happy and low sounding 2012 !
can I remove gk rb1001 head from 2x10 combo
in Amps and Cabs

Yes you can. I have a similar GK combo (Backline 210) and wanted to use the head separately also. So I just removed the head (it is only fastened with a few screws/bolts at the top) and put it in a very crude wooden case I made myself. Just 4 pieces of wood I had lying around (from a bookshelf), screwed and glued together. I did cut a circular hole in the top with a hole saw and fitted it with a grill from a computer power supply unit (http://www.techwarelabs.com/guides/misc_mod/psu_mod/FanGrill.JPG) and added a handle at the top and four rubber feet at the bottom. A few hours of work or you can ask someone with basic woodworking skills. I did not make any pictures then, but I have it still lying somewhere around so can make photographs if you like.
