Trumpets shouldn't be so bad surely? Just bend the note with less 'blow'? On a flute it's possible to bend a note by up to a quarter tone with mouth (embouchure) and breath support alone. Is trumpet the same? Mind you, Miles Davis seemed gloriously flat most of the time anyway, so who would know...

It can be quite difficult sometimes! The model of trombone I play (Conn 88H) is naturally ever so slightly sharp and some notes in the natural harmonic scale are sharp in the 'proper' trombone positions, thus need a little adjustment down on the slide. Then we have to tune the blasted things! :P
Temperature on a brass instrument can vary oh sharp/flat it plays quite dramatically.
Regardless 'lipping' a note up or down using one's embouchure is possbile on any brass instrument to varying degrees of success.

2. I certainly disagree - finding songs to find the intervals and learn them is a great way to start off!
e.g. first two notes of the star wars theme is a 5th.
But also just humming a major scale from the tonic to whatever note and then working it out like that is also very helpful.
In the end it is practice and it will one day just click.

3. If you drop Ashdown an email or call them, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help answer any questions. :)

4. Ashdown EB-180 15" combo. Serial No. 002948
A Pre-2004 model I believe.
Has the LED's instead of the infamous VU Meter.
Scrapes on plastic corner protectors from a little gigging.
Carpet covering in very good condition, little signs of wear overall.

One chip out of the back of the neck, so not noticeable when playing. Scrape is 7mm x 4mm.
Put on some new ernie ball regular gauge round-wounds two days ago.

I might have a wander down there, Is there places to park?
Unfortunately not directly. But there is a carpark about 20 yards down church street on the left then another carpark on the right.
But right next to the store is a small carpark for a small baptist church/scout hut.

Just about any and every where will do a price-match these days... you just have to have the nerve to ask. :)

I guess I'll have to ask in-store, as the website doesn't say. :)

7. I have to agree. I bought a few bits and bobs about a month ago and the service was excellent. None of the snobbery and general lack of interest for customer's when I went up to Denmark Street!

I also heard of the special oening you got last thursday! :)

I was wondering, do GuitarGuitar do price matches?...

8. I have to say good luck for your A2 course!
Does the place you're studying have a music tech course running? Students on that course might find that producing a backing track for you will work for their coursework assignments also, so you might find some willing volunteers that way. Network network network!
It would depend entirely on the school facilites, I guess. My school only had one room with mixer and we couldn't record during school hours as the actual rooms we record from are classrooms! However having done music tech as an a-level also, the coursework is immense. 120+ hours of coursework a year. not to mention that has to stretch across several students all trying to use the same facilities.
I can't really be of much help as I just did a trombone with piano accompaniament for my performances.

Would it be an idea to see if you can get a full band with you? - all you'd need is your part notated. The other in the bands don't have to be 100% correct. xD
Its what I did for my AS - had a full swing band with me arranging something for everyone to play & have the original solo part to myself.
