Hi guys
As I can just about sight read on a basic level, I've been noticing pieces and exercices that are written in the bass clef, but have this "C" next to the key signature. I'm not sure if it means a piece is using the clave or not because in my Bass Impro book (by Ed friedland) he writes some exercies with this "C" in the notation. Can someone explain or claify this please?
Thanks Phil -
Hi guys
If anybody else has one of these, do you guys find it switches presets sometimes? to something different when your practicing (ie. stu ham solo-Bonehead)? I've found its done it on a number of occasions and wondered if there is a way of stopping it?
Thanks Phil -
Hi guys
I just listening to some symphony X (the early stuff with there ex bassist Tom Miller) and up to now still amazed at the sound tom gets from his gear. I was wondering does anybody know how to get near to that sound? I've heard this growly sound on a meat loaf album aswell (welcome to the neighbourhood). So I get the impression its not just sound for metal/prog rock.

Cheers guys
It starting to make alot of sense to me now. The light bulb suddenly clicked on -
Hi guys
I'm wanting to expand my knowledge on harmony as I've heard Gary Willis mention it quite a few times. But I'm unsure of where to start? I know the basics of scale and chord relationship and that Willis has written a book regarding the subject, but I'm unsure of where to start? Melodies? Piano pieces? Gary Willis's book? Some suggestions would be greatly appericated!
Thanks Phil -

Cheers guys great stuff! I tend to set the eq flat but I'll give M 'shape' setting a go

Hi guys
This fri I'm planning to play with some friends and I usually get a 4x10 tracer elliot rig to play through but I seem to struggle to find a good eq setting what with two guitarists blasting away. Can anybody suggest a few eq settings? its usually a head with a 12 band eq and we play rock.

Hi guys
I've recently started to expand my rhythm repertoire a lot more and found this brill site, its mainly aimed at drummers who want to brush up on there rudiment techniques but I've found it quite useful. I've just recently learnt what a single paradiddle is and how to play one I'm hoping to try and learn a few more drum rudiments and than have a play around on my bass. Might be quite interesting in terms of fills and runs?

I'm looking for the Korg PX4B ( http://www.korg.com/gear/info.asp?A_PROD_NO=PX4B ) but having trouble tracking it down :S Any suggestions? I like some of the features that its jam packed with. Although if I can't track it down I'm happy to go with the PX4D. I'm be happy to buy the PX4B overseas if its the only way to obtain it which looks likey.

Hi guys
After watching adam nitti on bass player tv, when it came to the 10th video clip. He explains about doing scales in reverse and putting the root under the first finger of any key. So he's kinda starting high (G string) to low (low E). After understanding the concept I can't seem to visualise his way of thinking. Does anybody else understand this at all? I just can't see it on the fretboard either though I know the notes. Perhaps you just need a six string to understand I don't know?
Thanks Phil -
Thats very lush, its more art than anything else . The ramp looks smart I'm guessing its made out of ebony? I've just had a ramp fitted on my warwick TBO and its made out of ebony.
Phil -
Cheers Mike!
I'm still learning the technique on the side, but I'm thinking of getting a ramp fitted to my warwick so I can practice the technqiue alot better, I seem to favour the bridge pup most of the time.

Hi peps my toby is now updated with pics and would really like to give this bass a good home! Plus gas is setting in for a warwick swamp ash fretless! So I'm looking for £275, I'm also including a warwick rockbag case and warwick straplocks.
The toby its self has EMG active 40p5 humbucker pups and a EMG BQC system preamp, the body consists of bubinga and its a thru neck.
I've had it roughly 2 years and its condition is not to bad with slighy dink at the side of the head stock (hardly noticable). If anybody is interested at all, please pm me. Also I live in halls at the min in london and I'm not wanting to send it through the post as it may get damaged or end up lost, what with.the strikes that have been happening and all.

Thannks Alun, I was hoping someone with a jazz background would explain it to me. I think I can just about get my head around that!
Cheers

Just to clarify,
Does the shuffle count as 3 i.e. 1 2 3 1 2 3 in quater notes? Also do you count the swing saying 1 and a 2 but miss out or mentally say and?.
I just want to clear up on the subject you see.
When my teacher a while taught me about the swing and shuffle feels i took it in but i don't think I quite understood, i check up on the feels using the net just to understand. But can someone please explain this to me? I mean how do you use you metromone say, when you want to practice a swing feel with a scale. I've heard of using 2 and 4? I mean do you count that 2 and a 4? I don't know
Thanks Phil -
Sorry if I didn't mention the above any sooner, this is the first time I've put one of my basses on basschat before! >.< Oh yea and it also has warwick black strap locks and strap buttons which I'm throwing in btw.
how many strings?
pics? price?
Sorry thats one thing i didn't mention its a four string and I'm looking for £275. The reason it has 40p5 pups also is because of the size of the pup cavity I had to have the 40p5 range due to size of the cavity. The emg pup four string range was quite small you see, I would of had a big gap near the pup and cavity if I would have chose any, hence why I've got those in. They work fine btw!
I'll have the bass brought up asap! so you can see it, also I won't be sending it through the post as it might be too much and plus I don't want it broken! It needs a good home! -
Hi guys
I'm just testing the water with this bass at this minute, but I'm looking to sell my tobias toby pro soon in exchange for warwick fretless 4 string (somthing in swamp ash and with active pups and electronics). The toby its self has EMG active 40p5 humbucker pups and a EMG BQC system preamp, the body consists of bubinga and its a thru neck aswell, plus its in natural.
I've had it roughly 2 years and its condition is not to bad with slighy dink at the side of the head stock and a small chip near the bridge pup (hardly noticable). If anybody is interested at all, please pm and I'll add some pics. Also I live in halls at the min and don't have the bass on me but could arrange to have it brought to me via my folks when they see me on the 10th of Oct (birthday).
Thanks Phil -
Male 21 years
My style is mainly instrumental rock and leans towards progressive rock aswell. Been playing for nearly 4 years and I'm quite a technical player. And also my style includes soloing which I'm trying to develop still.
The main things I'm working are:
my ear (songs and solos)
chord playing
understanding the basics of sight reading
Aswell as many other things besides. Alot of my bass influcences come from: stu hamm, jaco pastorious, david larue, stanley clarke, john myung & victor wooten.
Music wise influcences are: steve vai (big fan), joe satriani (recently becoming a fast favourite), Symphony X, etc and the list keeps growing!

Setting up an electro/acoustic bass
in General Discussion
Posted
Hi guys
Its been a while since I've posted a topic (bass wise). I was wondering does anyone know anything about setting up a electro/acoustic bass (NOT AN UPRIGHT!). I've tried googling it and acoustic guitar keeps coming up and up right bass keeps coming up. I now how to set up my other basses, but I'm not sure how you would alter string height for example on a eletro/acoustic bass. All I know is the truss is at the end of the neck where you access it to make any neck adjustments.
Any help would be great!
Thanks Phil
