Many thanks for the lovely comments above guys! I'll group my replies together so as not to inadvertently spam or bump unnecessarily.

    Must. Resist. Temptation.

Haha! You may consider this payback, sir, for the hand-wringing and temptation that your green neckthrough TRB6P caused me a few months back 😂 Best of luck with the house sale 👍

Amazing bass and some fantastic playing (horrid track, but that’s just personal preference)

Thanks man! (having buggered up the fiddyness of transcribing it and playing it, 100% can confirm it is indeed a horrid track! 😭 I love it though. Fight me.

Damn. You can't do this to me!!! I did not need to see this. Let me see if I can come up with the budget quicker than this getting snatched by someone else...

By the way: fantastic playing on the Camilo track! Anthony would be proud :P

BIG BLUSH. That's made my day man, thank you. Though in seriousness, I'll need several lifetimes of study and experience to ever even get on the playing field with AJ, damn! Perhaps I'll work on my grimace/bass face instead. Re: the JP2, it seems we've had inverse journeys; I sold my Ken Smith BT6 (an old one) to be able to get this Yamaha. I couldn't financially swing having both at the same time, and they are quite different beasts with different strengths. But I massively regret letting my Smith go. Every time one comes up on here I'm telling myself that one day I'll put that mistake right!

I don't even want a 6 string and i have an Ibanez BTB1825 for sale on here so why do i want it?! That's a good deal.

A gentleman of taste and discernment 😋

Cheers for the comments guys! Do please PM if you have any questions about the JP2.

    Details:

Weight: 10.5 lbs / 4.7 kg c. on the bathroom scales

    Scale: 35”

    Bridge: 19mm

    26 frets

    Nut: 2 3/16”

    Radius: 40”

Body: Alder and Ash (layered), with Quilt Maple top and back

    Neck: Maple 3 pcs

    Fingerboard: Ebony

    Bolt-on neck

Hardware: Gold; Tuners have white perloid pegheads

    Pickups: Alnico V hum cancelling

Electronics: Volume, Blend, 3 band EQ (+/- Treble Mid Bass) N.B. the mid control is continuous, as opposed to the 3-way rotary selector switch found on the earlier TRB JP model and other TRBs/BBs

Mother of Pearl and Abalone inlays, gloss finish

Purchased here on Basschat a number of years ago from the redoubtable TorVic, and gigged consistently since then. This has been my main bass, and it has come with me on tours, festivals, sessions and theatre work. It has never let me down. So...heavily gigged, but as you can see from its condition in the pics, well looked after. Truss rods (both) operate correctly, and the neck is without issue. Bridge adjusts correctly, and the electronics are all in perfect order. Frets are good, finish has some swirls on the back as you would expect from extensive gigging, but no dings. On the treble-side edge (the edge that contacts your leg if played in a seated position) there are two or three small nicks in the finish, and the same is true on the top edge of the headstock, where I've occasionally attached a TC Electronic Polytune Clip Tuner. Plastic cellophane is still on the control cavity plate.

This is a world-class bass, arguably one of the best stock 6-ers available "off the peg". Made in Japan craftsmanship, premium woods, quality hardware; an absolute joy to play. I'm very sad to be letting it go.

Offering it to you at, I daresay, a bloody good price considering the amount of bass you get (it's a handful) and the eye-watering cost from new (have a look here if you dare): https://www.yamahamusiclondon.com/TRBJP2-'John-Patitucci'-6-String-Bass-Guitar/pidYAM-TRBJP2-TDR

Sound/video: Considering the profile of its endorser, there is no shortage of opportunity to hear this model in action. There used to be a good video on the popular website www.youtube.com wherein Patitucci demo'd the bass himself, but this seems to have been replaced by one in which he's chatting throughout, and the bass can't really be heard. For a quick-and-dirty listen, I found this:

...which seems to capture the "quickness" of the Yamaha preamp quite well. Newcomers to Yammies might find that useful; old-handers will know what I'm talking about.

The actual bass for sale can be heard here:

and you can go right ahead and excuse my sloppy playing throughout.

Trades: thank you, no...I'm looking for a DSI Sequential Prophet Rev 2, so unless you have one of those lying around, I'm looking for a straight sale on this occasion. An older Stingray 5 might fit the bill. If it's Natural Ash/Rosewood. BUT THAT'S IT! Hahaha! 😝

Happy to include a generic (non OHSC) HSC - I think it's a Thomann hard shell case...if you want it, it's yours.

Shipping: it's obviously better for you to come and inspect it and try it out here in Elephant & Castle where you're more than welcome, but if that's not possible I can ship to you via your choice of courier at your additional expense, or, if it's a reasonable distance, hand deliver it to you in my car for a contribution to the fuel money, whichever is cheaper for you.

Many thanks for checking out the ad.

    Cheers!

  3. I'm remiss in making this post so late after the event. I bought a double bass from Paul sometime last year...and what a great guy he is to deal with.

Not only did he come and pick me up from the train station, he was kind enough to basically put aside his whole afternoon whilst I fiddled with string heights and auditioned the bass in his kitchen, where he had it all set up and waiting.

Top bloke; great to spend the afternoon chatting to him (he even showed me some of his own very impressive bass building work) and it's a strong recommendation, without any reservation or hesitation, from me to anyone reading. Absolute class act, and a pleasure to deal with.

    Cheers Paul!

  4. As the above attest, Hans is great to deal with. I recently listed a bass for sale, and Hans was quick with his replies, his payment, and his updates once it arrived.

Top guy; deal with confidence...best wishes to you Hans!

  5. Aaaaaand sold. Sorry about the suspense for some of you(!) - payment took rather a long time to reach me, despite being organised very promptly by the buyer. International bank transfer via IBAN/BIC number...anyone else had a crazy long wait for payment to arrive? The buyer was advised it would be processed in 24 hrs!

  6. Hello!

Great workhorse basses, these. Details below:

    21 frets

    Nut: 1 11/16”

    Radius: 10”

    Body: Alder

    Neck: Maple

    Fingerboard: Rosewood

    Bolt-on neck

    Hardware: Gold

Pickups: 2 alnico single coil (stacked hum cancelling)

Electronics: volume, blend, 3 band EQ (+/- treble / bass and two mids presets - the mid control is a 3-way rotary selector switch to select between flat and the two presets)

Mother of Pearl and Abalone inlays, gloss finish

It's a really nice active super-jazz. Without the offset body. An example of this model demo'd very expertly here:

...by the redoubtable Jeff Andrews (RIP); and this actual bass demo'd significantly less effectively here, by me:

Happy to answer any questions here on the thread or by PM.

Shipping: obvs better for you to come and try out here in Elephant & Castle (I'll provide some socially-distanced biscuits and a cuppa), but if that's not possible, I can ship to you via your choice of courier at your additional expense, or, if it's reasonable, deliver to you in my car for a contribution to the fuel money, whichever is cheaper for you.

    Trades: thank you, no.

  7. Hi all!

Gigged regularly, meticulously looked after and maintained. Straight neck, truss rod/bridge adjustment all in good order. No dings/nicks.
As you can see, it's a Yin Yang Standard Series I, but without the painted YY symbol covering the flame maple top. So it's a "Naked" Yin-Yang.

Electronics: Fodera/Pope standard preamp (3 band +/- Treble/Mid/Bass), Volume, Passive Tone control, Blend, Preamp bypass switch

Mother of Pearl dots, Abalone butterfly, Natural satin finish

Sound clips: I'll endeavour to post some clips of the bass in action asap. In the meantime, the popular website http://www.youtube.com has several representative clips of the YYS Series I, albeit not this particular one. I mean it's a P/J with EMGs, alder body, ebony board, and one of the most flexible preamps available, so that's what it sounds like. (Which is to say, bloody great!)

Trades: Thank you, nope! EXCEPT: perhaps a 33" narrow 5 string if you happen to have one about.

Price reflects no hardshell case (tho I will happily include your choice of Mono Sleeve or Vertigo gig bag should you wish). Of note, this particular bass is not presently available from Fodera outside of a custom build, and to order this combination of woods and pickups the cost would be substantial; perhaps somewhere close to £6k after import duty and fees. Priced to sell quickly to a serious buyer therefore, and available for you to try in Central or SE London by arrangement.

Reason for sale: need a 5 string, saving for one, and it's one in-one out. I soooo wish I could hold on to this, but the bank account says otherwise.

Payment: by electronic bank transfer please. PayPal is ok too, if you would kindly adjust the price to reflect the fee that PayPal charges (approx. £59).

Delivery: I would suggest trial and collection in person. I'm also happy to hand-deliver to you within England/Scotland/Wales for a contribution to my petrol and upon confirmed receipt of cleared funds. If you absolutely must, or if you live overseas, I will ship with your choice of courier, again with an adjustment for the cost of shipping, and upon receipt of the funds.

Happy to answer questions; feel free to PM.

Many thanks for your time, and
    Best wishes!

  8. If you read through this thread, you'll see that Victor is great to do business with.
I bought a bass from him recently, and I couldn't be any happier!
Victor was cool with answering my questions, reliably consistent in keeping in touch throughout the deal, and he dispatched the bass by courier the moment my payment cleared.
I absolutely recommend without hesitation to buy from Victor - he's straightforward, honest and reliable. He's one of the cats!
    Best of luck, Vic,
    and Cheers!

  9. Alright here's how it goes. If Karl lists a bass for sale, it's going to be exactly as he describes it - well priced, well looked-after - and the deal is going to go down with no hassle at all.

He offered me the chance to try out a bass for as long as I liked, through a very decent rig with absolutely no pressure from him to buy; he just let me get on with my thing, and make up my mind over a coffee and some *exemplary* biscuits :-P
I bought the bass, and had a thoroughly great time talking to Karl about all sorts.

Karl's a top bloke, and I would encourage anyone reading this before a possible deal to just get in touch with him, and sort the thing out. You won't regret it!

  10.
I want to buy this but if another high value guitar enters my house again my wife will kick me square in the nuts.
:-@ Haha! Well..that's as compelling a reason I can think of to steer clear; far be it for me to jeopardise your marital stability (or, indeed, your testicular quietude) but cheers for the comment!

Everything original: nitro finish in custom colour, hardware (including ashtrays), frets, electronics, cloth wiring, dated pots and pickup, jack, pickguard, thumbrest etc, and hardshell case.

Electronics: In good working order and, other than some touched-up solder, all original. (I had Martin Petersen re-solder the ground wire at the Gallery in Camden, as it had come loose.)

Hardware: Also all original. The truss rod operates correctly with no issues. Ditto for the bridge and tuners (though if you're new to early/mid 60s Fenders, you'll find the tuners seem to operate in reverse..!)

Playability: The bass is well set-up, the neck is straight, there is plenty of travel available on the bridge saddles/truss rod nut allowing for any reasonable playing action/neck relief, and as mentioned above, everything adjusts well.

Sound: Please refer to the video linked here: https://vimeo.com/153655102 for sound samples. The bass is currently strung with TI Flats. I've had rounds on it in the past, and in that configuration it grinds, snarls, and...sounds like a Precision Bass should.

Condition: It has been played and played and loved and played. Please examine these detailed pictures: http://andybaxterbas...ails.php?id=469 for close-ups, including disassembly photos and gut-shots. (I bought this bass from Andy a number of years ago. I hope he doesn't mind me linking to the archived sale on his site...) The finish - wear and all - is quite beautiful IMO. As you can see from the pictures and video, the Lake Placid Blue colour "flip-flops" a little depending on the light. The nitro clear coat has yellowed over time; from one angle it appears teal; from another it is deep blue etc. The neck has that warm, broken-in feel that comes from nitro wearing down to the bare wood. It just feels like home.

Price/Trades: £4,995. As far as trades go, I'm trying to free up some funds for a house renovation, so most trade offers are unlikely I'm afraid. The only thing I'd see replacing this with is quite specific, so if on the off-chance you have a Fodera Monarch 4-string you'd like to trade, please by all means get in touch. Otherwise, a straight sale would be preferable.

Payment: Cash or Bank Transfer please.

Delivery/Collection: I'm happy to either ship or hand-deliver this bass, depending on what's cheaper for you: the shipping costs or a contribution to my petrol. However, with an instrument like this, I'd definitely recommend checking it out in person, plugging it in, and letting it speak to you. The bass is presently in the North, but I am in London very regularly, so if you are interested, PM me and I'm sure we can figure something out!

    Odds & Sods:

Weight: 8.6lbs

Nut width: 1 3/4" ("C-width")

Fingerboard radius: 7 1/4"

Full and generous neck profile; not massive, but enough on the shoulders to make each note feel that it has "weight"

Fret size: wide and low. Very little fret wear; plenty to work with should they need re-crowning further down the line

String spacing: 19mm (but somewhat adjustable due to the threaded saddles)

34" scale length

ES marking under the pickguard: stands for "Entered Special" apparently. Evidently this bass was a special order, made for a trade-show perhaps, or a custom order from the factory

Separate metal shield under the pickguard

Original Hard Case included
If there's anything I've missed, or a specific picture that would help, please post below, PM me, or shoot me an email at [email protected] and I'll be happy to get back to you.

Best wishes, and many thanks for checking out the ad!
