Mother of Pearl and Abalone inlays, gloss finish
Purchased here on Basschat a number of years ago from the redoubtable TorVic, and gigged consistently since then. This has been my main bass, and it has come with me on tours, festivals, sessions and theatre work. It has never let me down. So...heavily gigged, but as you can see from its condition in the pics, well looked after. Truss rods (both) operate correctly, and the neck is without issue. Bridge adjusts correctly, and the electronics are all in perfect order. Frets are good, finish has some swirls on the back as you would expect from extensive gigging, but no dings. On the treble-side edge (the edge that contacts your leg if played in a seated position) there are two or three small nicks in the finish, and the same is true on the top edge of the headstock, where I've occasionally attached a TC Electronic Polytune Clip Tuner. Plastic cellophane is still on the control cavity plate.
This is a world-class bass, arguably one of the best stock 6-ers available "off the peg". Made in Japan craftsmanship, premium woods, quality hardware; an absolute joy to play. I'm very sad to be letting it go.

Sound/video: Considering the profile of its endorser, there is no shortage of opportunity to hear this model in action. There used to be a good video on the popular website www.youtube.com wherein Patitucci demo'd the bass himself, but this seems to have been replaced by one in which he's chatting throughout, and the bass can't really be heard. For a quick-and-dirty listen, I found this:
...which seems to capture the "quickness" of the Yamaha preamp quite well. Newcomers to Yammies might find that useful; old-handers will know what I'm talking about.

I'm remiss in making this post so late after the event. I bought a double bass from Paul sometime last year...and what a great guy he is to deal with.
Not only did he come and pick me up from the train station, he was kind enough to basically put aside his whole afternoon whilst I fiddled with string heights and auditioned the bass in his kitchen, where he had it all set up and waiting.
Top bloke; great to spend the afternoon chatting to him (he even showed me some of his own very impressive bass building work) and it's a strong recommendation, without any reservation or hesitation, from me to anyone reading. Absolute class act, and a pleasure to deal with.

Alright here's how it goes. If Karl lists a bass for sale, it's going to be exactly as he describes it - well priced, well looked-after - and the deal is going to go down with no hassle at all.
He offered me the chance to try out a bass for as long as I liked, through a very decent rig with absolutely no pressure from him to buy; he just let me get on with my thing, and make up my mind over a coffee and some *exemplary* biscuits :-P
I bought the bass, and had a thoroughly great time talking to Karl about all sorts.
Karl's a top bloke, and I would encourage anyone reading this before a possible deal to just get in touch with him, and sort the thing out. You won't regret it! -

Everything original: nitro finish in custom colour, hardware (including ashtrays), frets, electronics, cloth wiring, dated pots and pickup, jack, pickguard, thumbrest etc, and hardshell case.
[b]Electronics:[/b] In good working order and, other than some touched-up solder, all original. (I had Martin Petersen re-solder the ground wire at the Gallery in Camden, as it had come loose.)
[b]Hardware: [/b]Also all original. The truss rod operates correctly with no issues. Ditto for the bridge and tuners (though if you're new to early/mid 60s Fenders, you'll find the tuners seem to operate in reverse..!)
[b]Playability:[/b] The bass is well set-up, the neck is straight, there is plenty of travel available on the bridge saddles/truss rod nut allowing for any reasonable playing action/neck relief, and as mentioned above, everything adjusts well.
[b]Sound:[/b] Please refer to the video linked here: [url="https://vimeo.com/153655102"]https://vimeo.com/153655102[/url] for sound samples. The bass is currently strung with TI Flats. I've had rounds on it in the past, and in that configuration it grinds, snarls, and...sounds like a Precision Bass should.
[b]Condition:[/b] It has been played and played and loved and played. (I bought this bass from Andy a number of years ago. I hope he doesn't mind me linking to the archived sale on his site...) The finish - wear and all - is quite beautiful IMO. As you can see from the pictures and video, the Lake Placid Blue colour "flip-flops" a little depending on the light. The nitro clear coat has yellowed over time; from one angle it appears teal; from another it is deep blue etc. The neck has that warm, broken-in feel that comes from nitro wearing down to the bare wood. It just feels like home.
[b]Price/Trades:[/b] £[color=#000000]4,995.[/color] As far as trades go, I'm trying to free up some funds for a house renovation, so most trade offers are unlikely I'm afraid. The only thing I'd see replacing this with is quite specific, so if on the off-chance you have a [b]Fodera Monarch 4-string[/b] you'd like to trade, please by all means get in touch. Otherwise, a straight sale would be preferable.

BIG BLUSH. That's made my day man, thank you. Though in seriousness, I'll need several lifetimes of study and experience to ever even get on the playing field with AJ, damn! Perhaps I'll work on my grimace/bass face instead. Re: the JP2, it seems we've had inverse journeys; I sold my Ken Smith BT6 (an old one) to be able to get this Yamaha. I couldn't financially swing having both at the same time, and they are quite different beasts with different strengths. But I massively regret letting my Smith go. Every time one comes up on here I'm telling myself that one day I'll put that mistake right!
