1. Does anybody know if you can order parts from Fender by part number?

I need a screw (just the one fgs!) for my Deluxe Active Precision Bass Special control knob, and I can't seem to get them anywhere. It's for the stacked treble control knob on the bass and as it's smaller, no other screws fit it.

    Cheers,

  2. Won't comment on the bassist as I don't know that much about that kind of bass playing style. But the drummer really laid it down well, so tight and on the money and some great fills and grooves in there. And his speech about Nile Rodgers summed it up, what a brilliant performer and legend.

  3. Moved by it all. Doesn't matter whether you're a fan of some of the music or not, everybody absolutely nailed it. Music brings people together and this definitely has shown that.

Credit must go to the production team for this event, it was less than 8 days they had to put this together!

Lots of great basslines in pop chart crap. Here's a very unlikely favourite of mine... but perhaps now old enough to be considered 'vintage':

That is nice. Maybe this should be a pop chart crap bassline appreciation thread? Here's another 'vintage' I just thought of...

Pop has always had great bass, just look at ABBA! It's often how session jazz guys make a living.

That's true! I didn't mean all of pop as whole, I was just trying to describe the music in the charts.

  6. .Attention - Charlie Puth

The song is somewhere in the charts, I don't really like it. But that bass! Nice and funky, ridiculously catchy. Sounds like it has an octave down effect on it?>

Anyone know if it's sampled or original?

  7. Not a band intro as such but we have a song written about an old science teacher from way back when we were all at school, we literally though he was crazy and he was going to snap any minute and kill us all. So the intro to that song is always "This is a song about a science teacher... and murder,". Always seems to get the audience warmed up.

I bought a Cruztools Bass Guitar toolkit, which came with a handy guide as well as all the necessary tools referred to therein. One of the best purchases I've made. Only thing missing are radius gauges, which can be had quite cheaply.

Thanks guys! All useful! Toolkit purchase pending.

I would recommend getting a cheap precision/jazz copy. Take it to bits. rebuild it. Mess with the truss rod. Mess with the bridge. Get to know these components and the limitations, if any, on the cheap bass. You may even find you improve a bass and start to experiment with what works for you. Get your hands dirty and if you break something, no biggie. At least you know how far to bend or turn something before it gets dangerous.

Great idea! certainly am one for tinkering so I think this will be the first step I take before going 'live' if you like on one of my gigging basses.

    More advice and links appreciated!

  9. Just wondering if there's a book out there that anybody recommends for setting up a bass guitar? I know there is so much advice on this forums but often conflicting opinions or different methods so I just wanted to find a respected guide to give me the basics.

    Cheers,
