[quote name='Johnston' post='999760' date='Oct 25 2010, 10:20 AM']If you want to REALLY lower your budget.
Keep an eye out for an old Dean (I have one) or a Washburn XB600(?) virtually the same. Both come up on ebay 2nd hand around the £100-£200 mark.

The former is Korean made ,and the latter their Euro series.
I have a Korean 6 stringer in Holoflash and it's a pretty nice bass, not too difficult a fretboard to work even with my smallish hands! I also have a Euro 5 stringer and can;t fault the build quality....just about the best value for money bass I ever got! -
Hi just discovered this forum......heard about it through a post in another forum I frequent!!!
So....I'm 37 and been playing bass for about 18-19 years (although I should be way better than I am)......currently providing the low end for this band:-

Although that's not me playing on the version so far recorded....
I have a couple of Spector basses (REX2000/5 Holoflash, and an NS5CR in Blueburst), I also have a Musicman SUB and a Fender Precision Special ('83 with switchable active cicuitry). Using Ashdown amps (ABM500 EVO) and cabs Mini48 and Mini15......with an Electric Blue 130 'practise amp'! Been trhough a variety of other basses including Guild, Washburn and few more Spectors, Yamaha Attitude and a couple of Trace Elliot amps.
Erm ,yeah, that about introduces me......into rock, heavy rock and metal music......yeah, that about sums things up!!! -
I've owned my NS5CR for just under 8 years. The NS5CR is solid maple (thru neck plus wings). EMG BTC(think it's a BTC) preamp, 34" scale and abalone dot inlays.
Next model was the NS5CRFM - flamed maple top, 35" scale, Aguilar preamp and Crown inlays.
The LX is the current model - specs should be on the website.
I even had an older NS5CR that had the old SSD logo instead of the more familiar Spector logo.
Hope this helps!

I found it pretty useful as a rock bass......
