  1. Just been in the situation of which cab to buy. Went with Barefaced and very glad I did. Even with the price rise, still 'cheap' compared to Bergantino if you can actually find a new Berg in UK. There's a little bit of Vanderkley kicking about and no chance of Mesa for several months.

I waited 16 weeks for My Barefaced and throughout, kept looking for alternatives. There were none! Everything is out of stock and long lead times.

  2. This is the older generation cab (not the newer Super Midget).

Anyone got one, can give me accurate measurements?

Barefaced website says 19.5 inches or 48cm height. Well, 19.5 inches certainly ain't 48cm LOL

I'm hoping it will stack nicely with my Super Twin if turned horizontally.

did you get a breakdown of the charges and how they were calculated, the vat part and collection charge . Did Thomann charge any shipping ?

shipping was included as the order was above their free shipping value.

On an order value of around £153, the following additional charges were applied on delivery

    Import VAT = £34.62

    UK Duty = £5.57

    UPS Transaction Charges = £11.50

Thomann displayed charges on their website no longer include VAT for UK customers.

    Hi All

Just a quick heads-up on my own experience today - UPS man came to the door with my parcel from Thomann and requested for charges to be paid (import duty, VAT and transaction handling charge) - He couldn't hand over the  parcel till I pay the charges (cash to the delivery man or on-line by card)

I ordered parts from Thomann to the value of approx £150 and got stung for £51 charges. Totally forgot we're not in EU anymore. Thomann prices not quite the bargain they seemed!

  5. Sorry... bit late to this thread but might be useful for someone in future...

When I tried this a few years ago I contacted Warwick and they said the MEC active  pickups I had in my 94 Fortress were rated to 18v but the MEC 2 band electrics were rated to 9v. I was replacing the electrics anyway so ran MEC pickups with EMG circuitry and used 2 batteries in series to get 18v

I noticed no difference in sound quality but the battery life was terrible! I went back to 9v

  6. An interesting idea...!

I'm Gloucestershire area, have several 5 string basses with different pickup combinations, fretted and fretless, multi fx, midi bass pedals and midi bass. Have also been thinking of getting Electric Upright so a few different texture options there!

Salisbury a bit far away maybe?

  7. Sorry I'm late to the party.... only just seen this advert but thought it was worth getting in touch in case you (or anyone you know) is looking for a bassist in the future. I'm in Cirencester, formerly Pro/Semi Pro with covers bands doing the North East working men's club circuit. Basses include Warwick fretted and fretless 5 stringers with a versatile amp rig that goes from a compact 1 wedge shaped cab right through to a concert sized multiple cab setup, I also play a bit of keyboards and have a midi setup which allows me to play keyboard sounds either direct from the bass or from midi foot pedals. I'm looking to add an electric upright bass in the near future too so some paid gigs would be nice to finance that! Get in touch if you're still looking! Many thanks. Regards, Tim

  8. As someone who graduated from the "You hum it, I'll play it..." School of Music I can only agree. My father who was also a bass player only taught me one thing... "It's not what you play, It's the notes you leave out that's important...

  9. Hi Dan

Sorry to hear you're not getting much response from Bassists. It sounds like a great opportunity but probably the bass pedals/multi instrumentalist thing putting people off. It's something I would love to do but I think location/pressures of work etc will count against it.

Is this going to be a full-time pro or semi-pro thing or just an occasional project and what kind of geographic area do you envisage playing (national, local, south-east?). You mention you're looking at 2013 before being gig ready - if you still haven't found the right person by December and you think it might be worth my while (plenty of gigs/reasonable pay) then give me a shout. I'm located in Gloucestershire so about 1.5 hrs away.

    My current gear includes:
    Fretted and Fretless bases
    Roland PK-5 midi bass pedals
    Keyboards and sound modules
    Acoustic and electric guitars

Looking to add electric upright bass to this list shortly as well.

My current band seems to have fizzled out but if you check out the pics on our website you'll see me playing the bass and bass pedals on-stage so I'm just the kind of person you're looking for.

  10. Hi All

This item is in very good condition and includes a brand new HOT Covers leather style padded cover (worth around £40). Not sure of year of manufacture but its the uprated 350w version (not 250w) and features Jack socket & binding post inputs (not speakon)

I recently sold this item but the buyer returned it saying it was faulty. I've thoroughly checked it over and there is NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. However, because of this experience I will now only sell it on a cash on collection basis where you can try the cab with my Eden WT550 head or your own amp to be sure you are fully happy with it before parting with your hard-earned cash!

The cab can be demonstrated either in my home in Cirencester or at my rehearsal space in Cheltenham. I would also be perfectly happy to bring it along to you if you live local to me.

I'm sure anyone looking at this advert will know about this already but PLEASE NOTE the Eden D210XLT has a sound which emphasises the mid frequencies which really helps your sound cut through on stage. If you intend to pair this with another cab, you may find this either works well and compliments your sound or perhaps isn't a good match and I think that was probably the problem with my previous buyer. If you like mid-scooped - it's not for you...

I've paired this with an Eden D210XST and an Eden D212XLT and an Ashdown 1x15 and had great results with all of those but since buying an Eden head I'm switching over to using 4 ohm cabs since the head can run at 2 ohms. This is my last remaining 8 ohm cab.

Price £240 cash (we can negotiate a lower price if you don't want or need the cover)

Always happy to consider trades/px but I'm currently only interested in the following:

    Nemesis 2x12 cab 4ohm
    Nemesis 2x10 cab 4 ohm
    Nemesis 1x15
Warwick or Rockbass Fortress basses (I'm always interested in these if you ever have one for sale)
    Spector Legend 6 string bass
Warwick Thumb Bleach Blonde 4 string
    Burny Les Paul style bass
    Washburn B20 bass
A decent copy of an American 4 string bass beginning with the letter R that we're not allowed to mention for fear of lawsuit

  11. Hi All

I'm looking for something interesting (any genre) and possibly more than one band. Gigging is what I'm after at the moment - don't want any bedroom projects or endless rehearsals with no gigs in sight - I've got that already!

I don't care whether it's original material or covers so long as its interesting and fun. My current band has taken 18 months to record an album and it's still not finished! I'm getting stir-crazy and need to be out there doing it!

I'm wrong side of 40 but that brings experience... Main instrument is bass but I can do a bit of keyboards and even the two together using midi bass pedals. Mortgage, job and dog probably means anything totally pro is out of the question unless you can promise me fame, fortune, sex, drugs, rock 'n' roll etc in which case just tell me where to sign...

Use PM to contact me please. If you just reply to the topic I might miss it or not see it for a while.

Can't give you any sound samples right now but pics are available below:

  12. Sorry for the late response but I think it's relisted...

slightly on the high side for a 4 stringer. I've bought two 5 string versions. One came from ebay - cost me £130 with hard case the other I bought from a retailer at £240 (it was like new). I reckon £150 - £200 depending on condition but Gator case is a bonus I guess. Been advertised a while and started at £280 - maybe he'll take an offer? Not many Fortresses about but to put it into perspective, you could get a genuine Warwick Fortress 4 string for around £400. There's one on Gumtree right now.

What I can say is they're great basses. I have a Warwick Fortress and 2 Rockbass Fortresses. I'm looking to buy more as soon as funds allow.

  13. Ashdown RC500 575 watt rack mount bass head - excellent condition. One of the last Made in England models before production moved to China. Will upload pics as soon as possible.

£250 for quick sale (or trade/px for Eden WT-550 amp or 4ohm Eden D210XST)
    Courier £10

I have a Proel 2u ABS Rack case in the store room that I can include for an extra £10 if you want it. The case has a crack in the rear door but is otherwise in good nick and the crack doesn't affect useability in any way.

Collection from Cheltenham/Cirencester (local delivery may be possible) or courier. I use UPS through interparcel.com but feel free to organise your own if you prefer. Item(s) will be well packaged.

I like this amp a lot but now need an amp that will drive a 2 ohm load so have decided to go with an Eden WT-550 to match my Eden cabs.

  14. For Sale - Eden D210XLT 350 watt 8 ohm in excellent condition and supplied with brand new Hot Covers protective leatherette cover (value £40). These covers are excellent quality, very thick, padded and hard wearing. I'm only selling as I'm changing to 4 ohm Eden cabs.

Collection from Cheltenham/Cirencester (local delivery may be possible) or can be couriered for £15. I use UPS through interparcel.com. Please feel free to arrange your own courier if you prefer. Item will be boxed and well packaged for transit.

An absolute bargain at only £260

Open to trade/px for 4 ohm Eden D210XST or Eden WT-550
