1. Here is my Lakland Skyline 44-64. Made in 2021, it was an impulse purchase that hasn't had the love it deserves and has got left on the shelf somewhat. It's a beauty, and every part of me wants to take it out and play it, but it never seems to be the right bass. Maybe this is due to its relatively high output compared to my other basses.

The only modification I've made is Schaller strap locks, which will stay on the bass. The head stock chip was on the bass when purchased, but I've touched it up with the right paint, and it looks good. Everything else is stock. It's strung with D'Addario XL 40-100 and plays nicely. Weight is 12lb according to my scales.

I have a box and can ship, or I can meet up (within reason) around Spalding / Peterborough.

2. I was hoping to pick the brains of the great and good of this site. I have MIM 2010 Jazz. I replaced the stock strings with D'Addario flats last year. There was a little more string tension, and I attempted to adjust the action. TBH I didn't get a great result and the bass was put to one side. It’s been a crazy year and my main bass has sufficed. I’ve now got the bass out, determined to make things right and fix the silly action issue…

I first changed to a spare set of Rotosound strings and set about a set-up. The problem is that I just don’t seem to be able to adjust the neck at all. The Allen screw turns, but nothing seems to happen. It’s almost as if the truss rod has become detached.

So, questions are… is this what has happened, or am I missing something obvious? And (obviously) what can be done about it? I’m okay with general maintenance, and have put together a couple of bitsa basses, but this has me at a loss.

I have always used 2000 grit wet and dry. Moisten it a little and just rub it up and down the neck. Takes about 20 secs and it just takes the hard shine off really. Leaves the neck smooth and super fast to play. Wipe off any residue with a clean cloth and you're done.
Piece of pi$$.

I'm the same... a very fine grit for a short time than a little polish. It feels lovely.

I would try contacting someone at Peavey on the off chance that they'll be able to steer you in the right direction. Send it to Peavey USA though... The UK division are bloody hopeless!

Now be fair... they're not that good! Never been treated so badly by anyone, ever... well, 'cept my ex-missus, and the bloke who mugged me that time!

5. DV are excellent to deal with. I've had amps from them before, and service was excellent. They'll help even when there are issues with the manufacturer... my relationship with Peavey has deteriorated beyond repair, but DV were there to offer good, old fashioned customer service. Can't rate them highly enough!

6. I bought a nice 6 mm dowel rod a while back. It's hard and straight (think it maybe maple) and 6' cost me a couple of quid. Stopped all the messing around with cocktail sticks. Sands down beautifully too.
